Getting out and active becomes more difficult in colder, darker and wetter months - but that doesn’t make it less important, or diminish the benefits. In fact… reflecting on the research conducted by the The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) on the impact GoodGym has on wellbeing, it feels more prominent than ever that we maintain healthy habits during a period where we expect feelings of wellbeing to drop. Join GoodGym at the Blue Earth Summit 9:30am - 11:30am 18th October for a 10K + environmental community task 🏃♀️ After a long few days of talks, our session is designed to shake off the cobwebs and get you outside into the community for a few hours in the morning. We'll be running/walking to a nearby task that will benefit the local environment. We're thankful to have been invited to help everyone attending Blue Earth Summit to reconnect - with each other, nature, and themselves - and take a much needed break from the screens. The session will be led by our CEO and Founder, Ivo Gormley 🌟 #DoGoodGetFit

GoodGym aims to be the biggest green exercise movement in the UK Our four overarching commitments are: 🌳 GoodGym promotes active travel by making it fun, inclusive and rewarding 🌳 GoodGym promotes awareness of positive environmental behaviour amongst our community by maintaining and growing green space 🌳 GoodGym increases biodiversity in cities 🌳 GoodGym aims to have minimal negative impact on the environment GoodGymers also voted ‘green’ tasks as their favourite type of session. We have done over 4000 green tasks in the last 12 months. By all accounts we need to do more of what we’re good at. Thanks to Wesleyan Climate Action Fund for helping us continue to maintain and grow green spaces 💚

Each month Athletic Brewing Co. recognise a GoodGymer for their exceptional commitment to #DoGoodGetFit. They help them celebrate with a crate of refreshing alcohol-free beer to share with friends and family. GoodGymers like Nick who continues to go above and beyond in helping grow his GoodGym group. From leading sessions to welcoming newcomers, Nick’s the man in GoodGym Leicester. We loved the idea from Athletic Brewing Co. and it’s been a pleasure to help them carry it out each month - a way to recognise the everyday heroes of GoodGym in a fun, light-hearted and social setting. Everything both Athletic Brewing Co. and GoodGym are at their core.

The Big Half was my first big race since 2019 - felt great to be back out there amongst 15,000 other runners, this is Euclides Montes from GoodGym Haringey. There were over 50 GoodGymers out there on the course and many more cheering us on - seeing people from so many areas, new and old to running and GoodGym made me think back to changes in running since my first half marathon in 2013. A highlight of Sunday for me was seeing Charlie Dark MBE at the sideline and giving me a big boost of encouragement. He did the same thing at my first race, the East London Half in 2013. In around 2009 I'd turned up at Run Dem Crew and stood on the other side of the road because I didn't know anyone and worried I wouldn't be good enough to join in. As soon as Charlie saw me on my own he came over and asked me questions and made me feel welcome. He asked about why I was interested in running and I told him about the idea for GoodGym and he immediately asked me to tell everyone about it - so on my first run with them he got me up in front of 100 runners and got me to speak about it. It was a huge confidence boost and felt great to be trusted like that. Perhaps because of this, from the beginning of GoodGym group runs we've always tried hard to make sure we welcome people and that no-one is left alone loitering at the beginning of sessions. Since that race in 2013 a wider change to a more welcoming type of running has steadily progressed; the dominant idea that running is about being the best, doggedly chasing times and enduring gruelling training is fading and in its place is more awareness of community, social connection, mental health and fun - groups like Run Dem Crew and others have pushed this from the beginning and events like London Marathon Events are now getting behind it with community places and more appealing invitations to participate, whatever your motivation. Last weekend was a great celebration of this -excited connection with people I've known for over a decade and meeting new people full of the joy of collective experience of doing something big together on a bright sunny morning.
