About us
Guts UK is the only UK charity funding research into the digestive system from top to tail: the gut, liver and pancreas. We were founded in 1971, known then as the Digestive Disorders Foundation. Since then, we have funded more than 300 projects and invested £16.5 million into medical research, leading to quicker diagnosis and kinder treatments for digestive conditions. At Guts UK, we raise vital awareness of digestive conditions and symptoms, and provide expert patient information and support to those affected.

👋 You asked Diverticular Dave, and we answered! Today, we’re joined by Julie Thompson, our Information Manager here at Guts UK, to answer some of the top questions you want answered during Diverticular Disease Awareness Week. 💚 Here’s what you wanted to know: • What are the main symptoms of diverticular disease? • Can you feel pain all the time? • How does diverticular disease happen? * If your symptoms change or you get new ones, especially blood in poo, consult your doctor. Your doctor may want to check you for other issues unrelated to diverticular disease. This year, we’ve also partnered with Bowel Research UK to launch our first-ever survey for the Diverticular Disease Priority Setting Partnership (PSP), bringing patients, carers, families, and healthcare professionals together to identify the top 10 research priorities for diverticular disease. All working together with one equal voice. 💚 👉 Find more information on diverticular disease via the link here: https://lnkd.in/enMhCcYE Thank you to everyone who answered our poll. There’s more to come soon, so keep your eyes peeled! #DiverticularDiseaseAwarenessWeek #Awareness #DiverticularDisease #DiverticularDiseaseAwareness #Diverticulitis #Diverticulosis #Diverticula #DigestiveHealth #Guts #GutsUK #GutsCharityUK

Do you know about our Diverticular Disease Priority Setting Partnership (PSP)? 🤔 With 1 in 3 people affected by diverticular disease in their lifetime, it’s vital that future research helps us better understand the condition and how to treat it. Soon, we’ll be launching our second diverticular disease PSP survey. Anyone affected by the condition will have an opportunity to help us narrow down the questions most important to them, which we’ll take to a final workshop where the top ten research priorities will be decided. We’re thrilled to be working with Bowel Research UK on this PSP. Together, we can get to grips with guts 💚 Find out more at https://ow.ly/VGwL50TIQ0R. #DiverticularDisease #Diverticulitis #Diverticulosis #Diverticula #DiverticularDiseaseAwareness #Awareness #DigestiveHealth #DigestiveResearch #GutHealth #Guts #GutsUK #GutsCharityUK

Do you ever feel like this? Living with a digestive condition or symptom can feel relentless, leaving us longing for the simpler days. The constant struggle with symptoms, the feeling of being misunderstood, and the challenges of managing daily life can be hard. It’s okay to acknowledge these feelings and to take time to grieve. But remember, you’re not alone. There are ways to find support and to keep moving forward. Sometimes, it’s the small steps, like having a wash or brushing your teeth that can make a big difference. Talking to a friend or joining a support group can also help. Learning more about your condition and connecting with others who truly understand can also provide great comfort. At Guts UK, we’re here to support you. If you feel this way, know that we see you and your feelings matter. Together, let’s keep talking about it and help each other through the tough times. Together, we will get to grips with guts! #ChronicIllness #InvisibleIllness #DigestiveHealth #GutHealth #MentalHealth #SelfCare #GutsUK #GutsCharityUK

Did you know that 5th October marks World Ostomy Day? 🌍 Don’t forget to share this post today to raise vital ostomy awareness 📣 We wanted to shine a spotlight on our supporters who have had ostomy surgery, including some pictured here from our latest #GUTSelfie campaign, which takes place every June on Instagram. An ostomy is an opening on the abdomen surface to divert the flow of poo into a bag. We are constantly in awe and empowered by you, our wonderful community, who unite to ensure nobody feels alone or suffers in silence. We see you stepping out of your comfort zones to discuss personal challenges and stories including how you have adjusted to a new body and life with a stoma. For some of you, having an ostomy has been life-saving. You teach others that having a stoma is never something to feel ashamed of. You shine brightly, step forward and say “This is me” with pride. Regardless of which digestive condition led you to your stoma, we say “thank you” from the bottom of our hearts for your dedication to helping the nation get to grips with guts 💚 #OstomyDay #WorldOstomyDay #Ostomy #Stoma #Ileostomy #Colostomy #Guts #GutsUK #OstomyAwareness #OstomyBag #StomaAware #StomaAwareDay
