Actions over words About a year ago, I had a pivotal conversation with the co-chairs of our Gender Balance Network to discuss future plans for the network. While I support book clubs, panel discussions, etc., I shared my preference for action over words. So, I challenged them to leverage their position to highlight the lived experiences of their members. I listened to the feedback, and some stories were difficult to hear. Some stories echoed my experience many years ago when I was a young parent in the early stages of my career. Today is a special moment for me. I'm proud to share that, following a lot of hard work by colleagues in the UK business unit, we are introducing seven new/enhanced policies to support our employees as they navigate work and the ever-changing home life: ✅Paid neonatal leave ✅Paid fertility leave ✅Paid time off for dependants ✅Paid carers leave ✅Enhancements to our maternity/new parent leave ✅Enhancements to our paternity/partner leave for onshore employees ✅Sabbatical leave Some of these changes go above and beyond statutory compliance because we believe that you cannot separate life from an individual at work. I am sharing this because we need to start taking action and stop performative actions like lovely poses with meaningless hashtags. If you're in a position of influence, your role is crucial. Please listen to your employees and use your influence to support them in navigating life as they support your business. As we've seen in the political debate across the pond this week, not everyone has kids 😀 , so let's be inclusive in our policies and remember to think beyond traditional family structures. A special shout out to Rosann Middleton, who led this project in my team, and Jeni Bratton and Teresa Redondo López, PhD FGS for your exemplary leadership of the Harbour Energy Gender Balance Network. It takes a team to deliver a change of this nature, so thank you, Sharon Bruce, Fiona B., Melanie Lewis and Sharon Henderson MCIPD, for working tirelessly to support this project. #actionoverwords #inclusion #inclusivepolicies Pic credit (author's own from morning walk today)

The Acorn and Scottish Cluster partners met with the First Minister, John Swinney yesterday at the St Fergus gas terminal to discuss the project and opportunities to work together to drive the Scottish Cluster to delivery.    Acorn aims to provide a CO₂ transport and permanent storage solution for a diverse range of industrial CO₂ capture projects across Scotland and beyond, enabling the safe transport of CO₂ to the northeast where it can be safely and permanently stored under the North Sea.   Commenting on The Scottish Government's announcement of new funding support for National Gas’s SCO2TConnect project, Nic Braley from Acorn said: “The Scottish Cluster, with Acorn at its core, and the UK and Scottish governments can collectively make a major contribution to UK net zero commitments, supporting ambitions for clean energy, green prosperity and value for money.   “We look forward to working with both governments to make the Scottish Cluster a reality."    #NetZero #CCS #SustainableScotland

Earlier this week, we spent an enjoyable and insightful day with Offshore Energies UK and Step Change in Safety at their annual Offshore Safety Awards.  Our VP North Sea HSES, Gatsbyd Forsyth de Barrera , kicked off proceedings, talking about the importance of not just adhering to protocols, but inspiring others to take safety seriously – the premise of this important event. Gatsbyd also joined a panel assembled by Step Change in Safety, focused on the results of its latest Process Safety Workforce Survey. She was joined by peers from Empirisys, the Health and Safety Executive, Scapa Energy, Anasuria Operating Company and Apache Corporation. In the afternoon, we took the opportunity to recognise and showcase the efforts of our most valuable asset, our people, hearing from the award finalists in each category about the work they have been doing to drive a culture of safety excellence across the sector.  Congratulations to all this year’s winners – including our very own David Leiper and the many excellent finalists, who took the time to share their commitment to, and accountability for, transforming our industry. Proud to have once again been the principal sponsor of such a fantastic event.    #OSA24 #PlayYourPart

Congratulations to David Leiper, our Company Medical Officer, who won the Wellbeing and Workforce Environment award at this afternoon’s Offshore Safety Awards, hosted by Offshore Energies UK and Step Change in Safety. After joining Harbour Energy in late-2021, Dr Leiper launched a new health and wellbeing strategy, and measures to improve the mental, physical, social, environmental and financial health of the workforce – both on and offshore.  The strategy takes a holistic, proactive approach to health and wellbeing, with personal health checks to help colleagues identify noticeable symptoms in the early stages that could become serious without intervention.  A wide array of wellbeing initiatives has also been curated to meet the diverse needs of our colleagues, with the appropriate governance, and associated processes and systems to support them, also put in place.  Well done David – you should be very proud of the efforts, both personally and those of your team, to help move the needle on workforce health and wellbeing here at Harbour. #OSA24 #PlayYourPart

ICS & OT Cybersecurity at Harbour Energy

I'm delighted to welcome Finn Jennings to the start of his internship with Harbour Energy through the Career Ready Scotland programme. For the next four weeks Finn will be learning about a variety of topics and getting some great work experience. Finn is considering mechanical engineering, so Rosie Bird from our mechanical team is helping with a project for Finn, and exposing him to the various engineering disciplines involved in offshore oil & gas. Next week we are joined by three more interns and their group project will get started.

Great to welcome the Harbour Board of Directors to Aberdeen last week! Over a few days, they heard from some of our safety reps, met virtually with OIMs, met graduates running the Early Careers Network and attended the Diversity Council meeting. An excellent opportunity to showcase all the fascinating work that goes on at Harbour Energy! #WeareHarbour

Ensuring our colleagues are kept safe and well is Harbour’s number one priority, and we are pleased to once again support the Offshore Safety Awards, jointly organised by Step Change in Safety and Offshore Energies UK.   These awards – which this year saw a record number of entries – represent a fantastic opportunity to recognise team, individual and organisation-wide efforts to drive a culture of safety excellence across our industry, and we’re looking forward to joining members of the offshore workforce, safety professionals and industry leaders on 2 July, to share experiences, best practices and learnings. Proud to have submitted two excellent nominations this year, with congratulations to our colleague David Leiper, for being shortlisted in the Wellbeing and Workforce Environment category. These nominations reflect our ongoing commitment to creating a positive and safe work environment. Good luck to all the finalists, see you there! #OSA24 #OEUKEvents #StepChangeinSafety #OEUK
