Great news from Flotation Energy today 👇 The project is the first major commercial development for floating wind in Europe, made possible through the joint efforts of industry, UK and Scottish Governments to efficiently clear planning milestones and access to the CfD. Projects like this are a great example of what a homegrown energy transition can look like - creating jobs and triggering investment👏

We are delighted to announce that, along with our joint venture partner Vårgrønn, we have selected Aberdeen as the strategic and operational headquarters for our £2.5bn Green Volt project.   This paves the way for the development of Europe's first commercial-scale floating offshore windfarm in North East Scotland. Up to 40 direct jobs will be based at Green Volt’s new HQ in the Granite City, which is expected to trigger around £2.5bn of investment and deliver 2,800 jobs.   Nicol Stephen, Chief Executive of Flotation Energy said: “Green Volt is a trailblazing, multibillion pound floating offshore wind project which will kickstart jobs and investment by companies right across the UK offshore supply chain. The choice of our HQ in Aberdeen is clear evidence of our strong commitment to support local jobs and businesses wherever possible.”   Aberdeen was selected for its world-renowned expertise, innovation and its status as home to the largest concentration of subsea supply chain companies in Europe, making it a natural choice for this key energy infrastructure project.   The news comes as 10 Downing Street announces thousands of jobs across the green industries, welcoming more than £24 billion of private investment for pioneering energy projects, including Green Volt, ahead next week’s International Investment Summit.   For more information, see https://lnkd.in/eDTX6pnp RenewableUK, Scottish Renewables, Energy Transition Zone Ltd, Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, Invest Aberdeen

Mental health used to be a taboo subject, but over recent years has become ever more topical, with organisations becoming increasingly aware of their responsibilities to their employees. Mental health awareness is still evolving and accelerated by the pandemic and people’s fast-paced lives, improving the awareness of mental health continues to be particularly relevant. The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilise efforts in support of mental health. The Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide. OEUK are marking this years' theme of ‘Prioritising Mental Health in the Workplace’ with ‘Tea and Talk’ in Aberdeen and London offices. At today's OEUK Wells Conference, HSE & Operations Director Mark Wilson CEng CMgr revealed the UK is producing less energy than ever before – the equivalent to only 60% of demand. Well drilling activity has also significantly reduced, falling by almost 60% in the last ten years as oil and gas reserves have declined, but also as a consequence of lack of investment. In a keynote speech to 130 attendees, Mark went on to say that there is a risk of the UK becoming increasingly reliant on imported oil and gas adding 👇 🗣️"As the UK’s oil and gas production declines, the chasm between the energy we create and the energy we consume grows. The government acknowledges that we need oil and gas for decades to come. We must mind the gap between the UK’s energy consumption and falling levels of production, or risk becoming more reliant on imports than ever before. The UK, its politicians, people, and businesses must be conscious of this energy gap and the implications it has for our energy security, economy, supply chain and skills. We hope the Government recognises the need to bolster homegrown energy, and that the upcoming Autumn Budget sends the signals needed to stimulate business confidence and investment in this sector." MP Visits Bilfinger UK's State-of-the-Art Training Facility 🏢 👋 We were delighted to host Kirsty Blackman Scottish National Party (SNP) MP, along with Offshore Energies UK External Relations Director Jenny Stanning, at our facility 'The Core' in Aberdeen. It was a great opportunity to connect with our local Bridge of Don MP to share industry key messages and provide some insights about the work we do. During their visit, they sat down with our President Sandy Bonner, Vice President of Inspection Dave Hall, HR Director Alison Porter, and Training & Competency Manager Stephanie Broadley, where they discussed the challenges and opportunities facing our business and the Aberdeen region. We expressed the need for the government to continue to support homegrown energy production in the North Sea, embrace the expertise of the local workforce and to protect our world class supply chain by providing policy that supports investment with a just and fair transition towards clean energy over time. 🔋💡 After a tour of the facilities, which house our industry-leading advanced inspection techniques and rope access service capability, a number of our apprentices joined the conversation to highlight the importance of attracting and retaining a safe and skilled workforce for the future. This is a goal we are committed to through various training and development programs and strategic partnerships. We would like to thank Jenny and Kirsty for your valuable insights and support. 👏 #WorkforceDevelopment #IndustryLeadership #Sustainability #Aberdeen
