Tom’s role – co-funded by Heathrow and Cranfield University – will help spearhead efforts to unlock solutions to some of ours and the industry’s most pressing decarbonisation challenges. Yesterday, Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds MP was in Scotland to celebrate a significant milestone: Brazil has granted special protected status to Scotch Whisky! This recognition not only honours the rich heritage of Scotch Whisky, but also opens new doors for trade and growth.   At Heathrow, we are proud to connect Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Kirkwall, and Sumburgh to more than 200 international destinations, facilitating trade and tourism across Scotland. In 2023 alone, Heathrow handled over £61 million worth of Scottish Whisky exports - that’s almost 2,000 tonnes. Scotland exports £15 million worth of Scottish Whisky to the US, whilst Vietnam imports the highest tonnage. Other top export destinations by both tonnage and value, include China and Singapore.    These figures underscore Heathrow’s vital role in connecting Scottish goods to global markets, supporting businesses, and driving economic growth. We are proud to be Scotland’s link to Brazil and beyond, ensuring that Scotch Whisky reaches enthusiasts around the world. By working with our partners, such as the Chamber network across Scotland, we will continue to ensure Scotland maximises the benefits of Heathrow’s unrivalled domestic and international route network. Heathrow welcomed nearly 8 million passengers in July, setting a new record with over 1.8 million passengers per week for three consecutive weeks.
