On Tuesday we attended our first meet-up and it was a fantastic experience, featuring some insightful discussions. Namely, our Head of Engineering Rebecca A., took the floor and addressed the intricacies of building high-performing engineering teams while sharing her own experience and tips. Additionally, Jake Vinegrad from BBC explored the intersection of mathematics with computer science. Today, we are shining the spotlight on our Client Partner, Christian Milburn! 🦔 Christian was highlighted by the team for his positive outlook and for always going above and beyond in his role and supporting the team, whether it's providing insightful advice or offering a patient ear to troubleshoot an issue. 👏 Let's hear more from Christian … 👉 What do you enjoy about being a Client Partner? The people. I get to interact with such a varied group of people on a daily basis, from all parts of the business and obviously our clients, so I get to learn something new every single day. I genuinely stand on the shoulders of giants and I’m very privileged to work with some incredible talent who make my job easy. Hopefully, the ‘Partner’ bit in my job title refers to both client and internal stakeholders. My children often ask ‘Dad what do you do for a living, all you seem to do is talk in meetings?’ and that’s quite true on the face of it (which is quite lucky, because I quite like talking!) but it’s the listening that’s most important to this role. The skill is allowing people the space to talk and actively listening to what they say. Finding solutions is also one of those things that gets me out of bed. There is nothing better than a brainstorm. I hate to admit it, but sometimes, when it’s chaos and time is running out to put out the fire, getting together to work out what to do is amazing fun. It’s usually when some of the best ‘outside the box’ ideas come out (I just don’t want to do that every day!). 👉 What is your favourite hobby? I have several hobbies, so it’s hard to just pick one. I think it’s very very important to have a life outside of the job and what you do for fun helps you achieve more everywhere. Not many people know this, but I have a fine art degree. At the time I specialised in sculpture, but these days I paint abstract landscapes and shoot photography, mostly of abstract architecture, urban areas, letters, and typography. But the thing that probably gives me the most pleasure is fashion. Both in terms of buying, but also photography. I collect heavyweight denim and other well-made things, so I’m always sharing that passion with my followers on Instagram and boring people to death about the thickness of my jeans! What a fantastic turnout for the Women in Tech North East CIC event yesterday at our Newcastle office One Strawberry Lane! 😄 We were thrilled to sponsor this event where our Head of People, Aime Watson Bachini, shared more info on how we enhance our employee experience and support initiatives like wellbeing, flexible working, and women in the workplace with the help of our partners.
