Hillhouse Extra Care Gets the Green Light Our architects have secured planning for Hillhouse, an extra care scheme in Waltham Abbey, Essex. Designed for Essex Housing and Housing 21, this project will bring 60 affordable apartments to the area. With a layout reflective of traditional alms houses, a u-shape plan around gardens, the design creates an optimised circulation strategy achieved through a corridor-based plan. Design for dementia support is a paramount throughout with communal spaces strategically placed to make the most of varying external conditions, with terraces facing both north and south. The building connects to the public realm and to nearby facilities including the health and sports centres. James Wallace, Director said '‘Obtaining planning on Hillhouse has been a challenge, but ultimately it will become an important addition to the Waltham Abbey area bringing much needed affordable extra care to the local community mixed with an attractive environment providing new homes for those in later life.''
