🏘️ We've outlined new housing proposals to ensure we deliver and improve council homes while tackling the ongoing housing crisis. Cllr Pat Slattery, Cabinet member for Housing Management, Neighbourhoods and Homelessness said: “Despite 14 years of underfunding by the previous government, our recently announced draft budget outlines how we plan to deliver positive change while continuing to deliver high quality services. "This includes being able to provide our residents with the homes they need and deserve and means we have no choice but to raise rents by 2.7 per cent, but they will still be some of the lowest in London. “To adapt to increasing challenges we’ve had to look at new and innovative ways we can reduce costs while securing more new council homes for families that need one and ensuring our existing council homes continue to be safe and secure. "Subject to approval, these proposals would ensure that we use our funds in the most efficient and effective way possible to continue to deliver the housing that our residents so desperately need.” The proposals will go to the Council’s Cabinet on 17 February and Full Council on 26 February. These new net zero carbon council homes near Brookmill Park are the latest to be completed of 1,750 we're creating across the borough. They are let to people on our housing register and are one of the main ways we are fighting the housing crisis. Many more are under construction for completion in 2025 and beyond.

New council tenants were welcomed to their new homes at Greenwich Millennium Village. 🏘️ The event provided tenants with essential support and introduced new neighbours to their ward councillors in the latest community on the peninsula. Council Leader Cllr Anthony Okereke and Greenwich Peninsula ward councillors, Cllr Denise Scott-McDonald, Cllr Nick Williams and Cllr David Gardner, met tenants at the event and spoke to them about the support on offer from the council. Last year the Council bought 100 one, two and three-bedroom flats at Greenwich Millennium Village with its own funds and a grant from the Greater London Authority to let to people on the housing register. 🏘️ See link in comments for more 👇

The garden of one of our children’s care homes has been given an extensive makeover by three of the companies we've contracted to build our new council homes: Elkins Construction, Durkan and Blakeney Leigh Limited. Improvements include raised beds for plants, herbs and fruit trees, a covered seating area, trampoline, boxing bag and a large shed for storage, so that care home workers can save money by buying in bulk. We require all contractors working on our 1,750 new council homes to provide social value in the form of projects like this one, or apprenticeships, jobs and training for local people. #greenwich #carehome #childrenincareuk #childrenincare #london #councilhomes #gardenmakeover
