Audit firms play a critical role in the #governace and #stewardship ecosystem via their roles as auditors of public companies. Ensuring they work in the best interests of their clients, the shareholders who own the companies they audit, is critical to build trust in the financial reporting that underpins the global financial markets. I am pleased to be in Brussels today representing International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN) and the views of institutional investors at International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) ‘s firm culture and governance roundtable. ICGN is pleased to contribute to IESBA’s project, which seeks to drive global consistency of ethical frameworks and governance systems in audit firms. This isn’t easy, one size won’t fit all and there are many firm specific challenges and nuances to consider, but a strong, adaptable, practical global baseline is a great goal. ICGN has responded to the Ikatan Akuntan Indonesia Sustainability Standards Board’s (IAI DSK) draft Sustainability Disclosure Standards. We welcome the IAI DSK's efforts to align with the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) Standards, and encourage adopting the #ISSB Standards without substantial modifications, to the greatest extent possible. ICGN supports the ISSB’s mission to develop a global baseline of sustainability-related corporate disclosures, grounded in financial materiality, and believe the adoption of the ISSB Standards will contribute to greater transparency on companies’ exposure to and management of sustainability risks and opportunities.
