🎶 We are joining a coalition of European creators and rightholders calling for a meaningful implementation of the #AIAct. The EU's music sector embraces AI’s potential to empower creativity while preserving artistic integrity. To safeguard this, AI developers must adhere to transparent and responsible practices that respect copyright and prevent deepfakes or unauthorised clones. By enforcing the standards in the AI Act, Europe can support a sustainable and responsible AI landscape where innovation and human artistry thrive. #MusicInTheEU https://bit.ly/4hn7ngV

We look forward to the upcoming hearings in the European Parliament for the Commissioner-designates Henna Virkkunen, Stéphane Séjourné, Glenn Micallef and Maroš Šefčovič. From digital policy and intellectual property enforcement to cultural development and global trade, we are keen to follow the discussions on the direction of Europe’s future policies.   Henna Virkkunen, as Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy, will lead the critical work of implementing and enforcing Europe’s digital policies. She is set to guarantee that Europe meaningfully applies and ensures proper adherence to the AI Act with respect to transparency and compliance with EU copyright laws.   Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, will prioritise enforcement across the internal market. He will focus on reinforcing IP protection and ensuring that the existing EU rules are implemented correctly and applied consistently across Member States, thereby securing strong and effective protections for those investing in and creating music in Europe.   Glenn Micallef, Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture, and Sport, will play an important role in shaping Europe’s cultural landscape. We look forward to future collaboration in ensuring the continued development and success of Europe’s creative industries.   Maroš Šefčovič, Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, will ensure that EU intellectual property standards are upheld in global trade, furthering Europe’s creative interests abroad.   We are committed to working with the new Commissioner-designates to enable #MusicInTheEU to continue to grow, compete globally and respond dynamically to emerging challenges.

“The way in which AI is already used, and the breakneck speed with which generative AI is developing, raises the question of whether a generative AI application could be used as an instrument or expressing original human creativity...”   IFPI Chief Legal Officer Lauri Rechardt has contributed a chapter titled ‘Protectability of AI-generated Outputs: AI the Tool vs AI the Creator’ to the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers (IAEL) publication “The AI Revolution: the International Legal Perspective”, which was launched this week at the Amsterdam Dance Event and features insights and debates from global expert lawyers about the major challenges presented by AI.
