Managing Director Inner Circle Consulting, Trustee Design Council, former Local Authority CEO. Chief Executive of the Year 2020

At Inner Circle we’ve spent the last couple of years supporting clients negotiate exceptional support arrangements, establish independent improvement panels, work through best value notices, and then put in place transformation programmes capable of delivering change at pace in line with their MTFP and other regulatory requirements. It has been fascinating, humbling and rewarding work and precisely why I joined the firm. All the indications are that there will be more of this support needed in the coming weeks and months. There are many reasons why exceptional support is a bad idea, but our clients have framed as a moment of reset and renewal. An inflection point that is as much about leadership, capacity building, and hope, as it is the technical nuts and bolts of idea generation and programme mobilisation. For sure the technical stuff matters – being able work across the breadth of social care, deploying unique approaches to prevention; driving growth to reduce inequality and to deliver financial sustainability, identifying real-world opportunities to deploy data, AI, automation, and codifying all this within a mid-century oriented target operating model and implementation programme – this what Inner Circle exists to do. But we also know it counts for little if the leadership conditions for success are weak or absent. It’s why we have consciously built a regenerative model of consulting that seeks to build capacity and confidence from the first day of our assignment. It’s been wonderful to see the impact of this approach. We hope to continue to make a valuable contribution to the sustainability of the sector we love in the months and years to come. https://lnkd.in/eRDyEiwz

Turns out my already award winning Pydar Regeneration project won yet another award last night at the Insider Media South West Property Awards. This award was for Future Ambition and granted in recognition of the impact the project will have in the region – the transformational and catalytic effect on the local area and the economy. To top it off, the shortlist was determined by property industry professionals and voted for by the people in the room last night. We beat stiff competition from Bristol Temple Quarter and Golden Valley, Gloucester. This clearly demonstrates the massive impact Pydar will have for Cornwall and the industry knows it! So glad my amazing colleagues Sazeda Ibrahim and Rachel Blackler were able to be there to receive the award, along with Tony Fisher! All while I celebrated my daughter’s 13th Birthday. An amazing night. Cornwall Council Treveth

A quick reflection on World Mental Health Day: A couple of years ago I had the pleasure of being trained as a Mental Health First Aider – it gave me a fascinating insight to the scale of the issue in the UK (both in terms of fact and perception!) and provided me with knowledge, awareness, and skills to spot signs of people experiencing poor mental health. I cannot diagnose, but as a result of that training I am confident enough to start a conversation, and where necessary, to signpost a person to appropriate support. I cannot recommend this training enough – an organisation having a number of their workforce trained is a must for me, a real sign of the importance placed on workplace mental health and far more value-add than any policy I’ve ever come across.   #WorldMentalHealthDay #WMHD #Wellbeing #WorkplaceMentalHealth INNER CIRCLE CONSULTING

Economic Growth is *the* top priority of our new government - but this has to be about so much more than changing GVA numbers on a spreadsheet. I was really pleased to write for TheMJ about needing to take a place-based approach to growth as local and regional government is tasked to produce growth plans. Focusing on place, and less on economic sectors, ensuring that residents and communities benefit from rising prosperity is essential if we're to make the most of this moment.

Our Safer Homes and Neighbourhoods Director, Liz Oliver, and Investment and Partnership Director, Catherine Raynsford, joined the conversation at the #HousingCommunitySummit this week.   Liz spoke about the changes we have made over the last year to better engage with customers, not only about building safety but across all our services. From transforming our customer contact centre, introducing our digital platform, My Account, to having more Neighbourhood Officers out in our communities, Liz made clear that multiple channels and approaches to engaging with customers are key.   Catherine joined a discussion chaired by Inner Circle Consulting that asked if the sector can deliver the government’s ambitious target to build 1.5 million new homes before the next parliament. Catherine cautioned that debt alone won't be enough to meet this target while also maintaining existing homes, with housing associations needing to explore more innovative funding models to make their development programmes viable. She also highlighted the vast buying power of the sector as a collective, and the opportunities that could arise from better collaboration.
