This year in our journey towards #NetZero we worked with neutral carbon zone, a leading carbon management company, to accurately measure our carbon emissions and were really pleased to progress to their Gold NCZ certification.

I couldn’t be prouder of our Smartspace fit-out team this morning when I visited our Warrington office. Over the last 70 days, the team have worked tirelessly to carry out a complete refurbishment and the finished scheme looks great. The aim was to create an excellent working environment that reflects modern day working practices. They achieved this by creating a flexible, agile workspace that can be reconfigured for any number of uses. The team installed a host of features, including a walking workstation amongst several other wellbeing facilities, meeting hubs, a training / conference auditorium and lots of breakout space to support collaboration, and it was great to see that all the meeting rooms have excellent AV and IT facilities. One of the key drivers was sustainability linking one of our Group promises of Thriving Planet so it was fantastic to hear how our new office has achieved an A+ EPC Rating, one of the best EPC’s in the whole Wates estate. The team used a host of innovations to accomplish this, including A.I controlled heat sensors, passive infrared sensors, EV chargers, Solar PV roofing and energy efficient appliances throughout, showcasing what can be achieved from a retrofit. Tomorrow, around 40 walkers from Insightful Environments and some of our suppliers will be walking 19 miles around London in the rain to raise money for the 19,000 people living with Scleroderma in the UK. After losing our colleague Danielle to the disease last year, we're trying to support this small charity, raising money to support others who still suffer from this rare chronic, autoimmune condition, where the immune system attacks healthy tissue within the body.
