Over the next 5 years we’re investing more than £700 million to reduce storm overflows across the region as part of a record £3.2 billion investment 🌊 💧 Our ‘Turning the Tide’ investment programme is helping us become the first water company to meet the Government’s target of less than 10 spills per year 💧 We're committed to eliminating storm overflows at bathing and shellfish waters by 2030 “Everyone who works at South West Water, or with us, live in the regions we support, and they want to make a difference. Whilst reducing the use of storm overflows will take time, we are investing more than ever to deliver real change today." - Susan Davy, South West Water CEO Find out more here - https://lnkd.in/eKBgb6uy #TurningTheTide #StormOverflows #Environment #Beaches #Investment
About us
South West Water is part of Pennon Group plc. We provide reliable, efficient and high quality drinking water and waste water services throughout Cornwall and Devon and in small areas of Dorset and Somerset. We also look after the region's bathing waters and coastline. South West Water came into being in 1989 with the privatisation of the water industry. We inherited a water system suffering from a century of neglect but, thanks to the tireless work of our 1,300 employees, have brought the region's drinking water, sewerage systems and bathing waters into line with the stringent UK and European Union standards. This extensive programme of environmental improvement has resulted in some of the finest bathing waters in Europe, picturesque scenery and clean rivers with stunning wildlife. We believe that by investing in the future of our region, we are not only improving the quality of life for today's residents and visitors but are also taking responsibility for future generations.

We've reduced storm overflow spills at one of our highest spilling sites in Cornwall. 🌊 This is a result of our recent investment in the wastewater treatment works in Fraddon, where we've installed a storm storage tank. The tank holds excess flows during heavy rainfall, which reduces the amount of times the storm overflow operates. We're committed to reducing storm overflows and improving water quality across the South West. We're working hard to become the first water company to meet the government's target of achieving less than 10 spills per overflow per year – a decade ahead of target.
