I'm very excited to open our 2025-2026 Engineering Internship program for applications. We are seeking three students who have a combined passion for engineering, science, and the game of golf. One placement is based in Loughborough with the PING Performance Research team and the other two are based at our HQ in Arizona, USA in our innovation and process engineering teams. The roles will be directly interacting and supporting the wider PING Engineering team in our ongoing quest to research, design, test, and manufacture the highest-performing golf products in the world. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out.

Thank you to everyone who participated in last week's ISEA Lecture Series, which featured Professor John McPhee from the University of Waterloo.   Professor McPhee's presentation on "Optimizing Sports Performance and Equipment with Predictive Dynamic Simulation and Machine Learning" provided insights into innovative projects, including applications in Olympic track cycling, ice hockey, baseball robotics, wheelchair basketball, Paralympic curling, and golf.   Thank you, Professor McPhee, for sharing your expertise and research.   We look forward to seeing you all at future events!

We are delighted to announce that the next lecture of 2024 will take place on Wednesday 21st August 2024 when Professor John McPhee (University of Waterloo), in the midst of the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, will be discussing the use of machine learning to optimize sports equipment and athlete performance, with applications in golf, baseball, Olympic cycling, wheelchair basketball, Paralympic curling, fencing, and ice hockey.

We have an exciting opening at our Phoenix, Arizona Headquarters for a sports equipment research engineer. Join us for the next edition of our online lecture series on Sports Engineering, kazuya Seo from Kogakuin University will present the concept of designing the equipment on the basis of sparse modelling. Athletes' performance depends on both the athlete and the equipment, and both must work in harmony. Generally, there are many design variables during the design stage. It is also difficult to estimate the index of performances multiple times due to time and budget constraints. This brings us to sparse modelling. The number of estimations of the index of performance is few, but design variables are many. Sparse modelling is a technique in machine learning that aims to represent data using a minimal set of features, emphasising simplicity and interpretability.

We've a 3.5 year, fully-funded PhD studentship Cardiff University School of Engineering, available from 1st July or 1st October 2024, in tandem with our friends at SPORTTAPE. This project will focus on improving athlete welfare by investigating innovative materials for taping, and novel taping strategies, to provide additional joint support during sport and exercise.
