New grants allow schools to build confidence, communication and literacy skills through exciting arts and heritage opportunities. Primary schools and other education settings in the Ipswich Borough area have just three more weeks to send in their applications which could result in their students taking part in incredible projects working alongside highly regarded local creative professionals. Thanks to a community grant from Suffolk County Council’s £2 million Ipswich Investment fund, the Thomas Wolsey 550 Project is offering a range of packages worth up to £3500 which tie in with the needs of the national curriculum. These include: A series of dance and movement sessions around the themes of belonging, identity and celebrating individuality delivered by a Dance East artist culminating in a sharing of the work in the school or even a studio at their waterfront location. The chance for students to work with the proprietor of Stoke Bridge Workshops to create a stained-glass panel linked to the school community which to display in the school. A series of sessions incorporating creative writing to design a narrative-led computer game under the guidance of experts from Game Anglia – including at least one session with the BAFTA Young Designer winner. Working with local organisation ‘Make Play’ in up to six sessions to design and create a new imaginative playscape for children in the nursery & reception year at the same school. In collaboration with UWU studios, pupils can co-create a mural up to 3 metres wide within the school grounds. An immersive Tudor storytelling workshop where the students develop entertainment for an imaginary dinner with the local nobility in the year 1580. For most of these options , a range of opportunities are on offer ranging from one big package to a ‘pick and mix’ approach for shorter projects allowing a wider range of students to take part. The closing date for applications is October 18th and further details of how to apply can be found on the emails sent to schools over the past two weeks, or https://lnkd.in/eeVcRkg7 Orwell Multi Academy Trust OUR LADY OF WALSINGHAM CATHOLIC MULTI ACADEMY TRUST Ipswich School St Joseph's College, Ipswich ASSET Education Trust St Edmundsbury and Ipswich Diocesan MAT

A shop-lifter caught stealing from two #ipswich stores earlier this year has received a community order, must complete 40 hours of unpaid work and pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service. Ipswich Central's #StreetSecurity team, operated by MY LOCAL BOBBY, detained Sharne Hughes for Norfolk & Suffolk Police arrest on 18 April. This outcome sends a clear message that anyone stealing from town centre businesses in #Ipswich will be caught and prosecuted. #ipswich #ipswichsuffolk #ipswichtown #communitysupport #communitysafety #justice #businessbenefit #saferstreets #MLB #ipswichcentraluk #retailcrime #crimeprevention

🏁 We've done it!!! 🗓 Today marks 550 days since the launch of the Thomas Wolsey 550 project in Ipswich, on 10 March 2023 ⭐️ Even better - while today's date officially marks the culmination of the 18-month public engagement programme, we'll continue to deliver on our aims to increase social mobility and improve people's sense of pride in place: 🎓 Earlier this Wolsey 550 CIC was awarded funding from Suffolk County Council's PDP grants scheme to carry on the work of our education programme until March 2025, and we hope to raise further funding to develop the scheme for years to come. ❤️ I'm really proud of this project, it's the best thing I've ever done - largely down to the following brilliant people. Let's take this opportunity to thank them: 🏅 Firstly hats off to our amazing team, Sheila Roberts, Hannah Houghton and Alyson Tipping for delivering waaaaay beyond anyone's expectations in every aspect of this incredible programme, enjoyed by thousands of people of all ages; to the team at The Hold - Home to Suffolk Archives for last year's excellent touring displays and phenomenal exhibition; to Eleanor Root and all involved with her brilliant talks programme, and to Llewela Selfridge and Harriet Foster for unstinting evaluation work. 🙏 Thank you to our Project Board and volunteers, especially Phil Roberts - the Cardinal himself in full regalia .. from 🥶 freezing nights filming on dark streets, to 💫 star turns at school assemblies, to 🔥 sweltering summer days at huge events, Phil never waivered in volunteering his time for the enjoyment of others. Thank you, your Eminence! 📋 The idea for the project came from Ipswich Central, who invested funding in development, and ensured delivery. Thank you to the team and board - in particular Project Chair Terry Hunt for your ongoing belief and support. https://lnkd.in/eWZpV6p3 Thank you so much to our funders The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Founding Partners, Ipswich Central, Ipswich Borough Council, Suffolk County Council, University of Suffolk, Birketts LLP, and Associated British Ports; and the support of our sponsors Suffolk New College, Ellisons Solicitors, WTW, Barnes Construction, McCarthy Stone, Ashtons Legal LLP, Kingsfleet, Robert Gatward Jewellers, Suffolk Building Society, BDO, Seven Asset Management Ltd, and Sackers. More thanks go to extraordinary individuals for their fantastic input, in particular Paul Smethurst, Gecko Theatre, Nicholas Weaver, Ipswich School, Briarbank Brewing Company Ipswich, Steve Flory, James Lee Burgess, Remi Morrison, Ashley Linford, Helen Dawson, Matthew C. Applegate (Pixelh8), musician Emma Mordue, historian Caleb Howgego and educator Dale Banham 📸 'Wolsey's Big Huzzah!' 4/7/24 photographed by volunteer, Oliver Cranmer. Tudor musicians led hundreds of school children to perform through Ipswich town centre, ending with a moving performance by Sidegate Primary School, overseen by the Cardinal and Henry VIII.
