“Well paid jobs and lower electricity bills”: Committee hails impacts of energy projects on visit to East Anglia The Chair of the Energy Security and Net Zero (ESNZ) Committee has hailed the important role East Anglia is playing in building a low-carbon energy future for Britain during a visit to key energy projects in the region. Chair Bill Esterson MP, alongside committee members including Claire Young MP, Luke Murphy MP, and Wera Hobhouse MP, toured ABP's Port of Lowestoft and visited Sizewell C and ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia ONE operations and maintenance base as part of a two-day visit to the region. During the visit, the Committee toured ABP’s newly completed Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility (LEEF), which was officially opened Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. They also explored the innovative Direct Air Capture (DAC) demonstrator facility, based at the Port of Lowestoft which is one of the UK’s first pilot projects for this cutting-edge technology, led by Sizewell C. The Port of Lowestoft and East Anglia continue to lead the way in delivering low-carbon energy solutions that align with the UK’s energy security goals. ABP News Release: Shared ambition to enable the energy transition brings Europe’s leading offshore wind ports to London In January, members of the Alliance of Major Offshore Wind Ports in Europe met at Associated British Ports (ABP)’s London office, as part of their ongoing collaboration to address challenges and opportunities facing the offshore wind industry and discuss how ports can accelerate the energy transition. The Alliance represents seven of Europe’s leading offshore wind ports and ports groups, including Associated British Ports (ABP) in the UK, Port Oostende in Belgium, Groningen Seaports/Eemshaven in the Netherlands, Niedersachsen Ports GmbH & Co. KG/Cuxhaven in Germany, Nantes-Saint Nazaire Port in France, Port Esbjerg in Denmark and the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority in Poland. ABP joined the Alliance in 2023 and is the only ports group in the UK to be represented, demonstrating the international recognition of the importance of the UK’s leading ports operator in supporting growth in offshore wind. Andy Reay, Head of Offshore Wind at Associated British Ports (ABP), commented: “We were delighted to welcome European port leaders to ABP and share ideas of how we can work together to ensure the offshore wind industry, which is vital to the energy transition, continues to thrive. “We’re honoured to represent the voice of UK ports in this Alliance because there is real offshore wind momentum here. To bring this to life - in the same week as this meeting, we have seen the Secretary of State for Energy and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, open ABP’s Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility (LEEF), which will support both operations and maintenance activities and the construction of new offshore wind turbines in the North Sea. “From current offshore wind successes such as the expansion of Siemens Gamesa’s offshore wind blade manufacturing facility at Green Port Hull to future opportunities to create prosperity, jobs and a green future such by supporting the development of floating offshore wind in the Celtic Sea – ports have a significant role to play in making offshore wind targets a reality.” 👉 Read the full press release: https://lnkd.in/ee9jiPM3 💡 Find out more about the Alliance of Major Offshore Wind Ports in Europe: https://lnkd.in/eB4YNWB4 #Collaboration / WindEurope / #OffshoreWind / #FLOW / #EnergyTransition / Julian Walker / Jan Allaert / Erik Bertholet / Dennis Jul Pedersen / Jesper Bank / Leibfried Dirk / Piotr Krahel / Rafal Zahorski / Steve Declercq / Ludovic BOCQUIER / Hauke Knust / Jess Asato MP / reNEWS - Renewable Energy News

ABP Southampton raised £15,500 in 2024 for its Charity of the Year, #ANDYSMANCLUB. Last week we presented a £15,500 cheque to ANDYSMANCLUB after completing a number of fundraising activities last year. It has been a pleasure to work with the charity to raise funds for its local meetings. This charity provides a safe space for men to discuss their feelings and challenges. It has four local clubs in the region, including Southampton, Eastleigh, Gosport, and Totton. Teams at the port have taken on various fundraising activities, such as the Isle of Wight Cycle Challenge, and abseiling down the Spinnaker Tower. Port customers and local community members also helped raised the funds by attending the quiz night last March and a carol concert in December. https://lnkd.in/eRGbRDEg #itsokaytotalk #thatoneman #positivementalhealth #suicideprevention
