About us
ISPA is the trade association for providers of internet services and is the voice of the UK internet industry. Founded in 1995, ISPA represents more than 200 companies in the internet sector, from large household names to SMEs serving a mix of business and consumer customers. ISPA’s members are rolling out the infrastructure, networks and services that the UK depends on and are at the heart of the digital economy. Our primary focus is on representing the industry to policymakers and the media by providing a unified voice on regulatory and policy issues, and we regularly meet with government officials, regulators and parliamentarians. In addition to this, ISPA brings members together through its working groups, an active events programme and communicates with members through various channels. We also play an important role in raising industry standards and the overall development of the industry. With the UK's push for nationwide gigabit-capable broadband, particularly in underserved rural areas, growing demand for scalable solutions for rapid fiber expansion presents a continual challenge for UK ISPs. ISPA Partner Genexis works closely with DNS:NET, a Berlin-based ISP whose successful leveraging of their FiberTwist Optical Network Terminal (ONT) has demonstrated how a flexible and scalable network infrastructure can enable rapid growth, and highlighted the importance of adopting innovative technologies to overcome technical issues. The strong relationship between DNS:NET and Genexis emphasises the value of vendor-ISP collaboration in achieving technical success and customer satisfaction. ISPA is hosting a roundtable in partnership with VIAVI Solutions on Wednesday 19th February at the ISPA offices in Shoreditch. Titled ‘The Path Forward: Automation and the future of UK Fibre Wholesale’, the discussion will explore: ➡️ The challenges of delivering wholesale network services to ISPs and end-users ➡️ Future expectations and responsibilities placed on networks ➡️ Solutions for effectively managing and maintaining quality network services ➡️ The adoption and impact of automation. The UK fibre market is in a transition period, with the trend towards adopting scaled wholesale models to increase network penetration and profitability becoming more prominent. However, managing large-scale wholesale networks presents challenges in system management, service efficiency, and maintaining consistent quality for ISPs and end users. The roundtable discussion will explore automation as a promising approach to the growing pressure on network carriers as faster broadband speeds increase consumer expectations and the demands of the digital world. Hosted at the ISPA offices, the roundtable will be followed by a networking lunch. This event is open to leaders of operations and delivery from UK wholesale networks. To register your interest, please contact the ISPA team at krystian@ispa.org.uk

We’ve been making headlines! ISPA’s comments recently featured in two episodes of Rip Off Britain on BBC One 🎥 The first episode tackled the challenges customers face when cancelling their broadband, with presenters providing advice and explaining the One Touch Switching process. ISPA highlighted that cancellation details are available on providers' websites or in contracts, and emphasised the sector's commitment to improving the customer experience. The second episode addressed customer service, with presenters offering guidance on how to effectively raise concerns with providers. ISPA’s quote called attention to the fact that complaints are consistently falling and have nearly halved in the past ten years, as well as explaining that providers are committed to improving their service offerings. Calling all UK based ISPs and ISPA members! We are asking ISPA members and all UK based ISPs to participate in our survey with nexfibre, which will help shape the market’s understanding of what you want and expect in a wholesale partner, and moreover, to ensure fibre wholesalers tailor their services to support your needs. We would greatly appreciate your input where relevant, so find out more about our comprehensive survey below.
The UK wholesale network market has seen remarkable changes in the past decade. With FTTP coverage now reaching 75% of premises nationwide and with the rise of technologies like symmetric XGS-PON, fixed wireless, satellite internet, and 5G, the landscape continues to evolve. As we enter 2025, the dynamics of wholesale networks available to ISPs are shifting yet again. Established players are now joined by new networks driven by BDUK requirements and market dynamics, creating an increasingly competitive and diverse environment for ISPs seeking to partner with network carriers. To better understand what ISPs need to thrive in this competitive market, ISPA and our partner nexfibre have launched a short survey. We’re inviting ISPA members and all UK-based ISPs to share their perspectives and help shape the future of wholesale network partnerships. Why participate? ✔️ Share your expectations and priorities as an ISP. ✔️ Contribute to insights that will drive industry improvements. ✔️ Receive a summary of findings in 2025 (exclusive to ISPA members). 📝 Take the survey here: https://lnkd.in/eWWkFFir The survey closes at the end of January 2025. Your input is invaluable, and we thank you in advance for helping to shape the future of the UK’s wholesale network market.

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology has launched a new consultation, the Technology Adoption Review, led by the Government Chief Scientific Adviser and the National Technology Adviser. ISPA intends to submit a response, and we’d appreciate feedback from members ahead of the deadline of the 14th of February. More details below ⬇️ The review, originally announced in the 2024 Autumn Budget, seeks to address the disparity between the UK’s strong innovation ranking (5th globally) and its weaker technology adoption performance. The review sits alongside the Industrial Strategy, with a particular focus on the growth-driving sectors that the green paper identified. The review seeks evidence on the current situation of technology adoption and why the UK ranks lower than other OECD countries, barriers to adoption, and future actions to take, including potential government-industry partnerships, to drive adoption. Please get in touch with any feedback or questions on policy@ispa.co.uk. https://lnkd.in/edg-WdPj #ISPA #TechnologyAdoption #DSIT #Broadband #Telecoms
