Q: Could you provide a brief overview of your career history/education/training?
A: “I started my career in 1986 as a Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship with GE Caledonian in Prestwick and worked there for 23 years, rising to a GE Aircraft Engine Power Plant Engineer. This early experience shaped my focus on getting quality, integrity and delivery right first time. Employing apprentices and giving the training and hands on experience is invaluable and something we need to continue, to ensure we pass on skills and knowledge to future generations.
“In 2008, I moved into Renewables with SSE for 12 years and watched the massive change in wind from a niche industry to mainstream acceptance as part of the energy transition. I finished as an O&M Manager, looking after all of SSE’s onshore and offshore assets across the UK & Ireland.
“After a short stint launching Adamas Wind during the pandemic, I moved to APAC in 2020 as O&M Director at SRE in Taiwan on their F1 & F2 projects. After a 2-year return to the UK to deliver O&M readiness on EDF’s NnG offshore wind project, I returned to APAC in October 2024 to lead the James Fisher Renewables team in delivering our services across the region.”
Q: What are your core roles and responsibilities at James Fisher?
A: “It’s an all-round role, from meeting customers, partners, government and industry bodies and suppliers, to ensuring our colleagues are safe, engaged and their views and innovative ideas are heard. I travel across the region and spend time in Taiwan, Japan and Korea talking to stakeholders at different stages in their wind energy journey, from development and construction through the O&M life, to ultimately decommissioning or life extension of assets.”
Q: What do you enjoy the most about working in the renewables sector?
A: “Every day is different.”
Q: What excites you most about the opportunities for renewables in Japan?
A: “The opportunity to use the knowledge and experience gained from projects in the UK, Europe and Taiwan to accelerate the growth in offshore wind energy in Japan.”
Q: What are your hobbies outside of work?
A: “I have raced nearly everything with wheels from bicycles, moto-x bikes and quadbikes to go karts and saloon cars.”
