  • Last week the team at JFD Sweden had the pleasure of hosting the Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson at their facility in Rindö. With a background as a conscript on the Swedish Marines (Costal Ranger) he was delighted to be back on the Island to hear about the ambitions and growth opportunities for the JFD Sweden operation. Our Tactical Diving Vehicles (TDVs) were the highlight of the day, and we look forward to welcoming him back to the island soon for a ride. 🌊 #TacticalDivingVehicles #Sweden #Defence

We were delighted to host the ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers) PVHO (Pressure Vessel for Human Occupancy) committee meeting this week at our National Hyperbaric Centre (NHC) in Aberdeen. The National Hyperbaric Centre houses the only land-based saturation diving complex in the UK and plays an important role as a hyperbaric reception facility. Danny Gray, Commercial Diving and Hyperbaric Director said: “ It was a pleasure to welcome the committee to the NHC this week. The team took the opportunity to showcase the capabilities of the facility and how we incorporate ASME PVHO International standards and procedures across all our JFD technologies to ensure safety within the industry." It was the first time the meeting had been hosted in Scotland and for many of the members their first experience of traditional Scottish hospitality. Thank you to everyone who attended for making it a successful and enjoyable visit. #NationalHyperbaricCentre #Safety #Collaboration

The UK’s spending on defence will grow to protect our national security – and the sector in Scotland will play a big role in meeting that challenge. The Secretary of State for Scotland Ian Murray visited the leading submarine rescue service provider JFD as the government announced new spending targets with SMEs. A new support hub will provide guidance on accessing the defence supply chain to firms. Last year, the Ministry of Defence spent around £32m with SMEs in Scotland. It has an expenditure of £2.1bn here, supporting over 11,000 industry jobs. The Secretary of State said: “The Prime Minister has been clear - we must up our game on defence. This new UK Government support for small and medium enterprises follows our commitment to significantly increase spending on defence to protect our own and European security." We were delighted to host The Rt Hon Ian Murray MP, Secretary of State for Scotland yesterday at our Glasgow facility, the new home of the NATO Submarine Rescue System (NSRS). Operated and maintained by JFD Global on behalf of the UK MoD and Partner Nations (France & Norway), the NSRS moved to its new home from HM Naval Base Clyde (aka Faslane) late in 2024. During a tour of the facility, the Secretary of State was given the opportunity to see the entire rescue system including: - a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) used for the initial intervention phase to help locate a disabled submarine - the Submarine Rescue Vehicle (SRV) used to rescue submariners and transport them to the surface - the Transfer Under Pressure (TUP) System which allows treatment of rescued submariners by specialist hyperbaric medical teams - and the Command Module where the entire operation is coordinated and controlled The visit supports the announcement made by the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer for major support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) following a historic commitment to increase spending on defence. The move will ensure more money is spent directly with British small businesses and boosts the economy of small towns and suburbs in every region of the UK as part of the Government's new Defence Industrial Strategy. The Rt Hon Ian Murray MP, Secretary of State for Scotland commented: "It was a real pleasure to visit JFD in Renfrew, and to meet the team working on some of the most high-tech defence technology we have. Scotland's defence sector is amongst the best in the world. Helping to protect our own military personnel and those of our allies - while contributing to economic growth and good jobs in Scotland." Robert Hales, Head of Defence at JFD commented: “I am delighted to see the news today around the increase in defence spending and the boost this will provide to many SMEs around the UK. We would like to thank the Secretary of State for Scotland for his visit and for championing the Scottish defence industry, showcasing our expertise and his support for the NATO Submarine Rescue Service. “ Read the full article here http://bit.ly/4kr3d9q #Submarinerescue #defence #LaunchandRecovery #SMEs

STEM highlights: 👷♀️👷 Thanks to Nick Graves and Dorothy Esson CEng for supporting the STEM Ambassadors stand at SubSea Expo last week. Mechanical Engineer Dorothy Esson has recently joined the Aberdeen Area Institution of Mechanical Engineers Committee with a special remit to develop the local promotion and support of STEM activities, as well as being a STEM Ambassador herself. Lots of luck to Dorothy as she develops this new role. 👏 Nick Graves, also a Mechanical Engineer based at Westhill, works for the Aberdeen Area IMechE covering around 2000 engineers. Nick was also invited to Tarves Primary School as part of the Primary Engineers Leaders Award, “ if you were an engineer what would you do?” national competition. Nick spent time explaining how engineers solve problems and discussed the engineering applications behind some of our products, such as diving – surface and rebreather, respirators and medical ventilators. All the students enjoyed trying on the diving helmets and masks. Thank you to Nick and Dorothy for their support in inspiring the next generation. #STEM #Engineering #Diving

10,000. That’s how many Hunter locals work in the defence industry - and here’s a few of them. Every day they not only make Australia safer. But they’re the reason the Hunter is a world-leader in manufacturing. And alongside Meryl Swanson, I’m committed to making sure we stay punching above our weight. That’s why we’re continuing to support JFD Australia with $100 million to keep making the world’s best hyperbaric chambers and diving equipment here in the Hunter. And it’s why we’ve also signed a four-year contract extension with them, valued at over $90 million, for submarine escape and rescue services in support of the Collins class submarines. It’s just another way we’re backing local manufacturing, jobs and ingenuity.
