We start our summertime dip into the ReImagine Law podcast with a conversation about the new Solicitor’s Qualifying Examination (the SQE) and the impact it’s having on diversity, equity and inclusion in the sector. Is it making a difference? In this episode, Jarred Consulting founder and podcast co-host Kerry is joined by Chris White of leading diversity platform Aspiring Solicitors and Jonny Hurst of educational group BPP. They talk about: 📢 Concerns over the latest round of SQE examinations and how data shows a disproportionate impact against diverse talent. 📢 The reasons behind pass rate disparity and how they range from students having to work throughout preparation to survive, to the costs of the exams themselves. 📢 The grants, bursaries and other free support available and what every student can do to help themselves if they fail the SQE. Such as pausing for breath before retakes, analysing where they went wrong and strategising a way forward. 📢 The different routes now available to get into the legal profession including solicitor apprenticeships and why these open up huge opportunities for anyone who wants to get into law. It’s a must-listen for anyone thinking about joining the legal profession – and anyone already working in it. The 100km Thames Charity walk is only a month away! We are looking forward to following the palliative pacers progress!
We’ve had so much fun training for the Thames Path Ultra Challenge coming up on 14th September. In aid of the Woking and Sam Beare Hospice and Wellbeing care, there’s 100k to cover so prep is important but that doesn’t mean we haven’t enjoyed it. Here’s what I’ve learned along the way: 👉 When you get out on a walk with someone you work with, you get to know them differently. You’re two human beings with a shared purpose, with the opportunity to chat about things you don’t have the chance to ordinarily. 👉 Outside, you can explore your thoughts in a broader, deeper way. 👉 You see a lot more because you’re walking. When you experience areas you haven’t seen before, you appreciate more where you live. 👉 It’s not really a hardship. Even when the going is tough, there’s nothing like putting one foot in front of the other. The hospice relies on fundraising to carry out its vital work helping those with life-limiting illnesses to live life to the full and make choices with dignity. So to to pop along to support us along the way on the 14th and 15th of September or to drop us a donation, please follow the link in the comments. Thank you so much. #challenge #walkingchallenge #fundraising #ultrachallenge #thamespath #wokingandsambearehospice #hospice https://lnkd.in/eaarKhNf Marie Howse Jon Jagger Nicola Eggers Richard Roberts Carina Kemp

This September, Jarred Consulting founder, and Woking and Sam Beare hospice trustee, Kerry Jarred, will be taking on the Thames Path Ultra Challenge. Together with the hospice’s clinical nurses, she will be covering a staggering 100km that is: 😯 One-fifth of the length of the Grand Canyon. 😯 Nine-tenths of the English Channel. 😯 Longer than the Panama Canal. 😯 Ten times as deep as the Marianas Trench. 😯 Fifteen times longer than the Las Vegas strip. Raising funds for Woking and Sam Beare Hospice and Wellbeing Care, she’ll be walking to support an organisation that: 😀 Provides 2,000 patients, carers and family members with 8760 hours of expert care and support every year. 😀 Delivers 80% of its care at home. 😀 Has 816 amazing volunteers. Because the hospice receives little Government funding, vital palliative care and wrap-around wellbeing and therapy services rely on bold fundraising efforts. Like Kerry’s trek along the beautiful Thames path. We’ll keep you updated on how training is going but in the meantime, click the link in the comments to find more information, join in or donate. #ultrachallenge #challenge #fundraising #goodcause #goodcauses #hospice #care #community #doinggood #walk #walkingchallenge #thamespath #northwestsurrey #palliativecare #careinthecommunity Kerry Bennett Kerry Gibb Katie Doyle Nicola Morgan-Savage Lucy McNally

Mediation isn’t just about who’s right and who’s wrong. It’s a win-win situation when the objective is to repair the relationship and then move forward. ‘In my time I’ve seen a lot of damage done to people, relationships and businesses when things go wrong. Surely there has to be a better way.’ says Jarred Consulting team member and mediation expert Lak Purewal. He has decades of experience in dispute resolution and these are his three pieces of advice: Engage with intervention as early as possible – when workplace issues arise, deal with them promptly before they become bigger problems. Embed mediation into your culture by normalising it – it’s not something to be scared of when it’s done right. A positive early intervention through mediation shows a progressive organisational culture where issues are dealt with informally, rather than escalating into time-consuming and costly complaints and grievances. Have confidence that a facilitated conversation between two people will improve the situation and help get the relationship back on track. ‘I know I’ve done my job well when I’ve brought calmness and reason’ he says. Workplace disputes can suck the life out of your people and management but it’s not always easy to invite an outsider in to help. How can you be confident that you’ve found the right person? This is our list of the top five things you should expect from your mediation expert: 1. Trust – that mediation will have a positive impact and will help effect change. 2. Sensitivity – all parties know they have been listened to and understood. 3. Objectivity – even if some people show their feelings more than others. 4. Confidence – the mediator’s job is to inspire confidence in the process. 5. A level playing field – company structure can make for difficult communication dynamics but this open space encourages necessary conversations. We partner with our clients and walk with them every step of the way. Proud of the depth and breadth of experience in our team, we’re confident that we’ll have just the person you need. It starts with a conversation so please drop us a message. #workplace #mediation #HRtrends #mediationconsultant #talent #businessconsultant #disputeresolution

Ear-to-the-ground insight is invaluable in today’s rapidly changing HR environment. Here are three hot issues that will have an impact on the way you handle workplace disputes. 👉🏼 The knock-on effect of employees becoming increasingly confident and empowered is that they are more likely to raise issues that concern them. 👉🏼 Legislative framework changes mean that companies have to be more proactive when it comes to dispute resolution. Token training and stale policy writing are no longer good enough. The approach has to be robust, systematic and embedded in culture. 👉🏼 Another way to describe mediation is to refer to it as a facilitated conversation with an external person. If you can improve workplace relationships by enabling open discussions, the impact on a company can be profound. What’s the cost to you, your people and your business of not keeping up? #mediation #workplacedispute #resolution #solutions #relationships #betterbusiness Lak Purewal Carolyn L.
