  • We are delighted to announce that full planning permission was granted at committee last week, for Friar Park Inn (former Public House), Wednesbury. This mixed-use development is a 3-storey building that comprises of a retail unit at ground floor with associated parking, 12no. one and two bed apartments with residential amenity space. Securing consent on this challenging site has required a huge effort from the design team, with in-depth consultations with Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council to create a high quality mixed-use scheme that regenerates a neglected site creating much needed retail and housing within the area. Great work from the team, Cerda Planning Limited, Strykeslip (Highways), and The Home Engineers. Looking forward to seeing this progress on site.

  • We have enjoyed working on 55 Holloway Head in Birmingham City Centre, which will provide much needed high quality residential units and bespoke townhouses. 55HH was one of the original flatted factory buildings in Birmingham, and our proposal includes for a full refurbishment and extension with a brand-new brick façade. The ground floor will house commercial units which will be accentuated by glazed plum bricks!

JBVJ, in collaboration with Beyond Property Group UK, has submitted a full planning application for the redevelopment of the former Lee Bank Business Centre at 55 Holloway Head. 55HH will be one of Birmingham’s most unique and desirable mixed-use residential developments offering much needed variety within ‘city centre living’ through the creation of mixed apartment typologies,4 storey townhouses and 6,500sqft commercial space. Situated within walking distance to the Mailbox, New Street Station and the Bullring; 55HH presents a prime location for residents to enjoy the best Birmingham has to offer. The scheme focuses on the re-purposing of the former flatted factory building and redevelopment of the adjacent car park site to provide high-quality BTR residential accommodation with 224no. dwellings and residents’ amenity in the form of shared and private terraces. The scheme also offers an enhanced public realm and activates the street level with prominent café and commercial spaces along key gateways within the city centre connectivity networks. The spacious apartments will utilise the existing building characteristics to offer large floor to ceiling heights, fenestration detailing to create a light ambience and façade articulation to create elegance and simplicity in the design language. Through detailed collaboration with Birmingham City Council, the design incorporates a simple material palette, considered proportions and a clearly defined hierarchy and function. With carefully selected materials, tones, patterns and bonding, the scheme makes visual reference to the rich historic character with some of Birmingham city centre’s notable ornate heritage buildings. A big thankyou to the team with early collaboration with our consultants from various disciplines: Made it Together, LJM Consulting Engineers Ltd, CBRE UK, MZA Acoustics Limited #55HH #Leebankbusinesscentre #55hollowayhead #architecture #planning #Birminghamcitycouncil #Residential #highrise #design #architects #flattedfactory

  • A pre-planning application has been submitted to redevelop a prominent corner block site in Digbeth.   The proposal is for 30 units of one and two-bed apartments together with a ground floor retail unit, cycle storage and an integral bin store.   The prominent corner block draws inspiration from the light industrial vernacular within the surrounding context.    Our proposal has focused on re-establishing continuity with the existing 6-storey surrounding buildings, expressing the bay on the corner and the retail frontage to provide a distinct base and recessing the massing to minimise visual impact.    Our material palette of glazed blue brick and concrete provides noticeable differentiation while contemporary detailing responds to the surrounding context and adds visual interest and strong shadow lines to the facade.   We are hopeful of a positive outcome from this application to add to the much needed housing need in Birmingham City Centre. #developments #planningpermission #architects #brum #digbeth #birminghamcitycouncil #jbvjarchitects #developer #planning #design #birminghamliving

We are delighted to have gained full planning consent for the canal side development. The scheme involves the demolition of an existing warehouse along the prominent Walsall canal and the creation of two distinct blocks with architectural references to the historic context and former foundries. The proposal will provide 45no. luxurious apartments with views across the canal. JBVJ Architects have collaborated with Walsall Council to enhance the waterside development with much needed housing for the area. #developments #planningpermission  #architects  #contractor  #residentialdevelopment  #residentialproject #jbvjarchitects #walsallcouncil #sitedevelopment #developer  #planning #conservation #heritagebuildings #heritagepreservation #designers #walsallcanal #apartments
