Urban Front Reality has submitted plans to convert a historic building that straddles the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal at Victoria Quays into apartments. The project team includes Sheffield architect Five Seventy Three, planning consultants Made it Together, surveyors Eddisons, and Schofield Associates. Named ‘The Straddle’, the conversion would consist of 27 apartments, with one-, two-, and three-bed options. Andrew Johnston Madeleine McCoy https://lnkd.in/ddM8V_Ef

We are excited to announce planning approval for 152 new, energy efficient homes on the Whitebirk estate in Blackburn. As part of our continuing partnership with Together Housing to deliver its place shaping strategy, the plans include 46 one-bedroom apartments, 45 two-bedroom houses and apartments, 54 three-bed houses, and seven four-bed houses. All of the homes will be available for affordable rent. Along with the new homes, the plans also provide significant investment to upgrade recreational spaces, improved streetscaping and the landscaping of incidental green spaces. Key among them is the redevelopment of the estate’s central park which will see the creation of a multi-generational park providing new play areas, seating, open and accessible pathways, and a planting programme to increase biodiversity. We were at planning committee in Blackburn last week (for the second time in 2 months). 220 affordable homes approved in total. Both applications approved in 13 weeks. Thanks in large part to the hard work and dedication of the local planning authority officers involved. Looking to seeing these homes and wider estate improvements come forward soon. Fantastic to see approval granted for the highway and infrastructure works around Orrest Head Farm, part of the Windermere Gateway project. Our team has been working on the project with Urban Splash, Civic Engineers and Made it Together for the past five years. This milestone will ultimately provide much needed access to future new housing for the community. #WindermereGateway

Green light for new pedestrian and cycle routes for Windermere ✅ Great news as Urban Splash secures planning approval for highway improvements around Orrest Head Farm, a nine-hectare site adjacent to Windermere train station, part of the Windermere Gateway Project. With a focus on sustainable transport and active travel, the plans pave the way for highways improvements including the creation of a new pedestrian route and enhanced cycle connections 🚶♀️ 🚴♀️ 👨🦽 The proposals will create a new gateway into Windermere, and are considerate of the existing World Heritage Site and wider conservation area: https://lnkd.in/evdwFeqJ It’s been fantastic to work with a great team and the local community to develop the civil and transport engineering designs, a step forwards for a more connected, accessible and sustainable Windermere 👏 Westmorland and Furness Council National Trust Lake District National Park Made it Together Tyler Grange #activetravel #sustainability #community Place North West

From #MiltonKeynes in the South to #Windermere in the North, #Swansea in Wales, and #Sheffield in between, we’ve hosted many public consultations this year as we gear up for a new era of Urban Splash neighbourhoods. Andrew Johnston of Made it Together has supported many of these consultations, helping us reach local people and communities, sharing our vision in person and online, and ensuring they can engage with the future of their local area. In our most recent article, Andrew talks us through the process and why it’s so important to get it right: https://lnkd.in/e8WQnuS4.

We are very lucky to share Studio Nine, a vibrant, collaborative space with fun, like-minded people and a beautiful view of the ginkgo trees on Stevenson Square. This week, we all decided to close the studio for a day, hop on a train, and walk up a hill in the Peak District! After a leisurely stroll back down we headed to the pub for lunch before making our way back to Manchester. Nature really is good for the soul. We absolutely love being in the studio alongside the fantastic teams at Artform Architects (big thanks to Jason for organizing), Luma Marketing, and Made it Together. Fun and inspiration on tap! NEWS: We're pleased to share that our proposals for the fifth and final phase of the Park Hill estate were granted planning permission unanimously at committee. Phase 5 builds upon our light touch approach on Phase 2 for Urban Splash and Places for People which aims to retain as much of the existing fabric as possible. Our work on Park Hill Phase 2 reduced operational carbon by 87% compared to pre-retrofit through improved fabric performance. Phase 5 aims to improve this further and will be the first phase to deliver photovoltaics within the base specification. Chuffed this happened and creatives like Oskar Withak and Ed at #withingtonwalls could lead the vision here and be supported to do so. Connecting the creatives that spark ideas to make places people want to live, work and play and invest time and money is fundamental to placemaking practice imo and it’s what I strive to do with Civic and Social so natural to find a way to make it so…and new routes to finding money to fund ideas/make that happen quickly is key! God... where to start! It feels odd not having posted about the Withington Walls Paint Jam considering how huge it’s been, but maybe its bigness is why I haven't gotten around to it. Last year, Ed and I started talking about a festival. Withington Walls had delivered over 100 artworks, hit global news, and hosted two shows - a festival felt like the next step. Despite giving ourselves nine months to plan, by May we had no money and little idea of what we were doing. Thankfully, Civic and Social came on board and connected us with some wonderful sponsors, making our vague ideas a reality. In the days leading up to the Jam, the scissor lift company told us the delivery would be ✨after✨ the Jam finished. When the lifts finally arrived on time after much haggling, a skip was obstructing the entrance to the space 😂 One of many speed bumps leading up to the weekend… The Jam day arrived, and a trickle of people turned into a flow. By 2pm, the space was packed - music, food, beer, the smell of spray paint, and kids trying their hand at painting. I could finally relax and enjoy the experience. It was a fantastic weekend. A big reason for the Jam was to grow a culture of street art and graffiti festivals in Manchester. GRIT Studios have been doing their thing, and Urban Artistry has been hosting street art film viewings - it feels like we’re building momentum. Ed and I are already whatsapping about next year, much to my partner's frustration, I'm sure 😂 Beautiful photos by Fiona Finchett 🙏
