Take 2 - Looking forward to a busy 6 months working with KNOX & WELLS LIMITED again and Mike Dando on a much needed Specialist Resource Base (SRB) at Llanishen Fach Primary School. After seeing the high standard finish to a recent extension they built at Pentyrch Primary School and the positive impact it has had on the children , teachers and local community the difference this SRB will make to teaching and learning for children and staff cannot be underestimated.

We are excited to announce the successful completion of another project, with Maesteg Town Hall now open to the public. CMB carried out the £1.1 Million Mechanical contract for this project and the doors to the Grade II Listed building officially reopened in November 2024. The major redevelopment to this 145-year-old Town Hall returns it to its former glory, blending its rich heritage with modern amenities. These include a glass atrium, studio theatre, cinema, contemporary library, local history and heritage centre, and a café. The revamped space now hosts a wide variety of arts, cultural, and community events for people of all ages from the surrounding areas. To preserve its history, the building’s architectural heritage features such as the brick archways, tiling, cornicing, columns, and historic paintings dating back 100 years ago have been carefully maintained, adding remarkable character to the finished structure. The CMB team carried out the following Mechanical services during the project: • Heating System comprising of Plantroom, Gas Fired Boilers, Radiant Panels, Trench Heating, Underfloor Heating and Radiators • Ventilation Systems, comprising of 2no Air Handling Units, 6 MVHR’s and various Toilet Extract Systems • Automatic BMS Control System • Above Ground Drainage Systems • Hot and Cold Water services • Sanitaryware • DX Cooling Systems • Testing and Commissioning • Thermal Insulation to mechanical services • Kitchen Supply and Extract Ventilation including Fire Rated Ductwork System These new facilities offer a wealth of opportunities for the local community, bringing one of the largest investments ever made in the area. CMB Project Director, Richard Smithen, added: “The Maesteg Town Hall project brought many formidable challenges during its extensive renovation. KNOX & WELLS LIMITED continued their pro-bono support for the Purple Plaques scheme which recognises the achievements of “Remarkable Women in Wales” with the fitting of the organisation’s latest plaque in Cardiff and their 17th in all of Wales. Recognising the achievements of the Booker Prize winning author Bernice Reubens, it was the fourth such plaque fitted by Knox & Wells. The Purple Plaques scheme was launched on International Womens’ Day 2017 and Knox & Wells were proud to fit that first plaque, commemorating Val Feld, on the Senedd Building in Cardiff. The method of fitting of the first plaque was pioneering territory for Knox & Wells and the Purple Plaque team. David Smith MCIOB and Sam Jones rose to the occasion, developing and fitting a secret fixing system that satisfied the Architect, Carolyn Merrifield’s and the Senedd’s stringent criteria for security and aesthetics. Morgan Advanced Materials based in Swansea are expanding their current manufacturing operations to include the installation of new furnace capacity on site. This will be used to produce a range of insulating materials used across a wide range of sectors. CMB were awarded the M&E contract for the factory expansion by Principal Contractor, KNOX & WELLS LIMITED, and have now been on site since November, making good progress on first fix of containment, process cooling water, gas heaters and VESDA pipework. We’re pleased to be adding yet another project to our manufacturing portfolio and look forward to providing an update on the completion of this project next year. #mechanicalengineering #electricalengineering #swansea #manufacturing
