Applications for our 2025 graduate programme are closing this weekend. Submit your application 👉 https://lnkd.in/gV65PnMP Development Manager Pierce Johnstone started his career as part of our 2020 graduate cohort. He shares his experience of the programme: "I joined Latimer by Latimer by Clarion Housing Group’s graduate programme in November 2020, and since then, my career has gone from strength to strength. After completing the programme, I became an Assistant Development Manager before being promoted to Development Manager in early 2024. The graduate scheme gave me the confidence and skills to take on real responsibility, working across multiple teams and projects. Now, I’m leading on an exciting mixed-use scheme in Mitcham, delivering 100% Social Rented housing and collaborating with the local council on a vision for the town centre. It’s a fantastic opportunity to put my degree into practice—focusing on sustainable place-making, urban regeneration, and creating vibrant communities. One of the most surprising (and rewarding) aspects of working in development has been the diversity of backgrounds in the field. I’ve worked alongside engineers, architects, and fellow geographers, learning from their expertise while sharing my own knowledge of geography and sustainability. The graduate programme has been a game-changer for me, providing real opportunities for learning, progression, and hands-on experience." #GraduateProgramme #Latimer #ClarionHousing #UrbanRegeneration #Development Connectr

Housing and Community Development
Building livable, loveable communities and homes. UK’s most sustainable non-profit developer. By Latimer. For everyone.
About us
We are Latimer - the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, developing private homes in thriving, mixed-use communities. The majority of homes we build are for affordable tenures, but building homes for outright sale is crucial for our business to develop both mixed sustainable communities and recycling any profits we make from those private sales back into building and maintaining more affordable homes. Our long-term commitment to the people who live in our homes is what sets us apart; we're pacemakers, dedicated to creating socially and environmentally sustainable communities. We also don't have shareholders, so we don't face short-term demands to make profit at any cost. Instead, we're driven by our commitment to quality, community and places that succeed.

We’re thrilled to announce that our groundbreaking Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community (TCBGC) project has been named a winner in the Inspire Future Generations TET (ThorntonEducationTrust) Awards 2025, earning recognition in the category of ‘Children Long-Term Programme’ for the project’s significant social impact. This recognition highlights our innovative approach to fostering creativity, inclusion, and collaboration in the design and development of TCBGC. With support of social enterprise experts MATT+FIONA, we launched a series of engagement initiatives that have empowered children and young people to actively shape their neighbourhoods, giving them a meaningful voice in creating a sustainable and inclusive future. Russ Edwards, Project Director – East Colchester, said “Our success in these important awards is testament to the whole project team’s commitment to making sure that young people’s voices are not only heard but listened too as well. This welcome recognition highlight’s Latimer’s commitment to fostering meaningful engagement and maximising the potential of inclusive co-design to transform communities.” Find out more about our youth engagement initiatives at TCBGC 👇 https://lnkd.in/eANbM8vx

🏡 London first-time buyers: is 2025 your year to buy a home? 🏡 Following a tumultuous economic period of rapidly rising interest rates, factors such as growing wages, cuts to the bank base rate and gradually improving mortgage deals could mean that household incomes will go a little bit further when buying a home in 2025. Latimer homeowner Siri proves there are pockets of value in unexpected areas, after moving into her one-bedroom home in Canary Wharf using shared ownership. She told The London Standard “I compared the size of apartments with Zone 4 but I knew if I settled for anywhere else I would be disappointed by the location”. We’re delighted to announce that the Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community project has been nominated in three categories at the TET (ThorntonEducationTrust) Inspire Future Generations Awards: Community Engagement, Children Long-Term Programme, and Youth Long-Term Programme. Young people are influenced by their neighbourhoods, yet they rarely have a voice in shaping them. We value the fresh perspectives children and young people offer with their keen awareness of issues affecting their age-group and their compassionate understanding of the needs of marginalised groups. Thanks to the support of MATT+FIONA, we’ve launched several initiatives that have empowered children and young people to have a meaningful say in the design decisions at Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community. These awards recognise and celebrate excellent projects and programmes that have made a tangible impact on closing the gap between architecture and education. We’re proud to have been nominated, and look forward to the awards ceremony in January. #IGAAwards #IGAAwards2024

We’re thrilled to have once again achieved the prestigious Gold Award for The UK’s Most Sustainable Not-for-Profit Housebuilder, as recognised by the NextGeneration Benchmark. For the second consecutive year, we’ve upheld our standing as the highest-ranked housing association developer and for the first time, we’ve increased our position to become the second most sustainable homebuilder overall. This accolade is a testament to our ambitious sustainability strategy, which prioritises socio-economic development, environmental stewardship and design excellence across our projects. The NextGeneration Initiative is the sustainability benchmark for the UK’s housebuilding sector. It evaluates the social, economic, and environmental performance of the top 25 housebuilders. The benchmark sets out the best practice and drives positive change across our industry. Our continued leadership in sustainability has cemented our position as a standout performer. Richard Cook, Chief Development Officer at Clarion Housing Group, said: "To win the Gold Award for the second-year running is a tremendous achievement and a reflection of Latimer’s unwavering commitment to sustainability. I am incredibly proud of our team for their efforts in building communities that not only provide much-needed homes but also address the pressing environmental and social challenges of our time." 📍 The Cocoa Works, York We're proud to announce our flagship project to transform the iconic Rowntree's Factory into a residential development is now complete. The Cocoa Works has been sensitively redeveloped into 279 apartments, 30 per cent of which are affordable homes. As part of the redevelopment, the former Joseph Rowntree Memorial library has been re-imagined as a co-working and meeting space for residents, including a concierge, and the newly created William Sutton pavilion is home to independent York café CAVO. As the former Rowntree's Factory, the building was once an incredible centre of community in the city. Now, after years of being left derelict, residents are starting to move in and enjoy the space. We're excited to see it flourish as a new community begins to thrive here once again. Richard Cook, Chief Development Officer at Clarion Housing Group said: "We wanted to do more than just build homes at The Cocoa Works. We aspired to deliver more by sympathetically redeveloping the factory to sit at the centre of a vibrant and diverse neighbourhood which provides quality homes, amenities and shared spaces to help foster a genuine community. With The Cocoa Works now complete, it gives me tremendous pride to be able to say we’ve delivered on that promise.” Henry Boot Construction

At Latimer, we are committed to building strong relationships with our partners and constantly learning, improving, sharing lessons learnt and best practices in order to create safer construction sites, homes and communities. This week, the design team for Phase 1 of our new 7,750 home mixed use Garden Community at TENDRING COLCHESTER BORDERS LTD in Essex joined Latimer colleagues for the Zero Incident Pledge (ZIP) behavioural change programme. ZIP demonstrates our commitment as a Client to act with integrity and diligence in everything we do to ensure that health, safety and wellbeing are prioritised at every stage of a project including design as well as construction and operation. Melissa Dowler, Director at Bell Phillips Architects, said ‘I really appreciated being invited to join this interesting and instructive workshop. It is reflective of Latimer’s obvious dedication to health, safety and wellbeing as a central tenet of their development work that the workshop took a refreshingly holistic attitude towards these subjects. As a designer, an understanding of these issues is fundamental to my ability to deliver successful projects for my clients and to have the opportunity to discuss and reflect on the challenges with the wider team in a round table format was extremely valuable.’ Thank you to all the attendees from Bell Phillips, Haworth Tompkins, Jas Bhalla Works, Clancy Consulting, Wallace Whittle, Stantec, Periscope, Arcus and OFR for prioritising the session and supporting us towards our commitment to ensure that all stakeholders are positively impacted by our projects. If you’d like to find out more about ZIP as our behavioural change programme or to sign up to our HS&W newsletter, please reach out to our Health Safety & Wellbeing Lead Jide Talabi Jide.Talabi@clarionhg.com or reply to this post. #design #Latimer #healthandsafety #wellbeing #TCBGC #cultureofcare #collaboration
