About us
Barking and Dagenham is one of London's most exciting and fastest growing boroughs. The council is facing some huge challenges, but we also have the opportunity of a lifetime to grow the borough and our community. We’re 20 minutes from London and have space for 60,000 new homes. We’re building London’s first Youth Zone and are on track to house a new film studio in Dagenham, rivalling the likes of Pinewood and boosting our local economy. We also now have our very own university campus, thanks to Coventry University setting up CU London, offering flexible learning and affordable courses to residents who historically had no aspirations to go to university. Change is needed and it’s happening already. We’re investing in our physical infrastructure and in our community, providing what people need to be able to help themselves. Last night we proudly held the inaugural LBBD Iftar organised by Muslim colleagues from across the council. It was a fantastic event, open to all, with 80 staff attending, fostering unity and reflection. The evening included soothing recitations from young voices, a speech by Shaykh Mohammed Mahmoud on the significance of Ramadan, and the shared experience of breaking fast and prayer with so many delicious dishes lovingly prepared by colleagues. A truly memorable celebration of faith, community, and togetherness. THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this happen and to everyone who attended. 🌙
