Thousands of people use our libraries for more than just borrowing books. (but we loan a lot of those as well)

About us
London is moving east and Newham is at the centre of that change. Just three miles east from the City and well connected to major transport links, we are the future of the capital in terms of regeneration and opportunities. We are home to one of the UK’s youngest and most ethnically diverse populations. We offer unique opportunities for both professionals and residents. We are a great place to do business, a great place to visit, and a great place where people choose to live, work and stay.

This year’s World Social Work Day takes place on 18 March 2025 and this year’s theme is ‘Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing’, which emphasises the importance of caring and respecting across generations to build strong societies, sustain the environment, and share wisdom for a better future. During World Social Work Week, we take the time to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of social workers. Their efforts often go unnoticed, but their impact is profound. Social workers have made significant contributions to their communities, providing support and advocacy for those in need. Their stories inspire us to continue striving for a more just and equitable society. A special thank you, from everyone at Newham Council to our wonderful social workers for devoting their time to support others, and the impact made on our communities. Laura Eden
