We’re proud to share LHC Design’s own Sam Curran has achieved a distinction with his architectural research project on ivy growth patterns. He is a shining example of how hard work and dedication can drive success! Sam is a proud participant in the UK’s Graduate Apprenticeship Scheme, balancing his work at LHC with studying for his master’s degree, all while managing a busy life outside of work and study. His journey highlights the power of time management, consistency, and following your passion. Sam’s love for architecture began as a child, shadowing his grandfather, an engineer, and has grown into a fascination with preserving historic buildings. His latest research project at the University of the West of England focuses on protecting buildings from destructive ivy and climbing plants. Through his innovative design, Sam has developed a solution using curved zinc and copper features to redirect plant growth, preserving the integrity of building façades while offering an aesthetic solution that can be tailored to the needs of each structure. Sam’s work not only contributes to the preservation of architectural heritage but also provides practical, sustainable solutions for the industry. We are proud of what he has achieved thus far and pleased to support his professional and academic development. If you’d like more information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. #GraduateApprenticeship #Architecture #BuildingConservation #Innovation #Sustainability #HistoricPreservation #ApprenticeshipSuccess #IvySolution #WeareLHC

🌳 Team LHC's 'Wild Workday' was a huge success, and we couldn't have asked for better weather or a more beautiful location to spend the day together. 🌞 Yesterday, as part of our carbon reduction efforts, we teamed up with Moor Trees, a charity dedicated to restoring native woodlands in Dartmoor and the surrounding areas. We’re proud to have supported their mission by planting over 300 diverse trees on a plot of former farmland near Cullompton. Not only did we contribute to building vibrant woodlands that will help mitigate climate change, but we also played a role in creating essential habitats for wildlife, all while providing future generations with spaces to enjoy nature. 🌍🌱 This is just one step on our journey toward achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2042. Together, we’re making a lasting impact, both for the environment and for building stronger bonds within our team. 🌲💚 #Sustainability #NetZero #MoorTrees #ClimateAction #TeamBuilding #WildWorkday #CarbonReduction #EnvironmentalImpact #SustainableFuture #RestoringLandscapes #WeAreLHC

Exciting Public Realm regeneration completed in Yeovil! 🎉 After six years of dedicated planning and development, LHC is pleased to see the completion of a major public realm enhancement scheme in Yeovil town centre! The scheme was part funded by the Governments Future High Streets Fund and is part of Yeovil Refresh – a long-term vision by Somerset Council to deliver fundamental improvements within the town centre through significant investment from the council and key partners. The public realm enhancements comprise: 🚶➡️ Reconfigured streets and traffic circulation to reduce through traffic and provide safer and healthier spaces with greater pedestrian focus. 🪨 Beautiful Forest Pennant Sandstone paving from Forest of Dean Stone Firms Ltd and new street furniture. 🌳 New street tree and ornamental planting to provide urban greening. 🎭 A new events space with new planting, inscribed Amphitheatre seating, a giant screen to play various sporting and other events, a stage area, and a new water feature that will bring dynamism to the space once commissioned this spring by Ocmis Ltd. 🎨 New public art developed in conjunction with the community and designed by You&Me. In delivering the scheme the project team and main contractor had to carefully manage construction works within the existing bustling retail area and reconcile numerous service constraints and accessibility issues. The overall finish and outcome of the project is fantastic and has helped to transform the town centre environment, acting as a catalyst for further regeneration and investment in the town. We can’t wait to visit the scheme later in the year as the planting establishes and the community gathers for some events in the spring and summer sun! ☀️ A big thank you to the teams behind the project: Somerset Council - Ian Timms for being a great client and Ian McWilliams for supporting the approach to Highways design. Coreus Group - Olivia Moorey and team for Project Management & QS services Hydrock, now Stantec - James Gage for providing Civil Engineering Taylor Woodrow- Main Contractor along with their design team - AWP, Stantec, Airey & Coles Consulting Engineers and others for constructing the scheme! It was a pleasure for members of our LHC team to attend the sculpture unveiling at Tithebarn Green on Tuesday. The bronze structure by local artist Martin Staniforth, features an interpretation of the Chaetonotus, a pond living organism that filters bacteria from sediment helping ecosystems like ones in the series of five ponds in the Tithebarn Sustainable Urban Drainage System directly adjacent to the community centre, to thrive. Set in the new public square, the sculpture has been funded by Exeter-based, Eagle One Ltd, developer of the new Local Centre, which features a newly opened Tesco Express, and is set to provide a much - anticipated café and further office space upstairs. The works are underway for the new local play area, multi-use games area, pocket park and green spaces. It’s been wonderful to witness this years-long growth project for the region brought to life, which will serve as a landmark for community engagement for years to come. #PuclicArt #CommunityDevelopment #Exeter #EastDevon #TithebarnGreen #Mosshayne #LocalCentre #Sustainability #UrbanDesign #NewBeginnings #GrowthPoint #PublicSpaces

Keeping education on track at Dartington 📚 LHC Design was pleased to return to the stunning Dartington Estate to see how OnTrack Education are settling into their new premises. Over the summer we provided Principal Designer (Building Safety Act) services to Jane Cox and her contractor team. We gave technical support and guidance to successfully navigate the Building Control process, achieving the necessary approvals for their work to convert former dance studios into an Independent Special School (based upon a design proposal prepared by Baulch Architects). On Track Education has nine DfE registered and Ofsted inspected schools across the country providing individualised, accredited education programmes for young people aged 7-19. LHC Design is proud to have worked collaboratively with OnTrack Education, Devon Oak Interiors, Firemaster (SW), and BAULCH ARCHITECTS to deliver this new school. It’s these projects that repurpose empty, yet perfectly serviceable existing buildings, rather than shiny new-builds, that often go on to make the most life-changing impacts in local communities. jane cox, ADRIAN J WILLIAMS, Mark Evans, Simone Aurich de Alencastro John Baulch, Kate Birchett #EducationForAll #BuildingSafety #SustainableDesign #RepurposingSpaces #LHCDesign #DevonProjects #MakingADifference #CollaborativeDesign #TransformingSpaces #BuildingBetterFuture

This Christmas, we at LHC are continuing our tradition of giving back in a meaningful way. Instead of sending cards or gifts, we've made a donation of food to the Trussell Trust foodbanks in the three locations we operate in. It's our way of supporting local communities and spreading some holiday cheer where it’s needed most. Wishing everyone a wonderful festive season – may it be filled with kindness, warmth, and togetherness! 🎄✨ #GivingBack #TrussellTrust #SeasonOfGiving #WeAreLHC
