We are proud custodians of some of the best sporting heritage in the world. Merton’s connectivity is unbeatable in south London. We are at the start of both the Northern and District Tube lines, which offer direct access into central London in just 20 minutes. And, we’re a borough going places. We have a blueprint for the future to unlock the full potential of what we have to offer in our borough, in the capital and beyond. We’re focusing on three priorities: 1. Civic Pride We’re working to ensure Merton’s places, people and organisations thrive, because we want everyone to be proud to live and work in Merton and feel connected to their communities. 2. Building a sustainable borough for the future We’re building a future in Merton by creating a place bolstered by more affordable and sustainable homes; that’s celebrated for its vibrant high streets, excellent schools, and safe neighbourhoods; a borough where everyone feels connected to their community, embraces diversity, and a place where our residents can lead healthy, active lives. 3. Borough of Sport Merton is becoming London’s first Borough of Sport. That’s because we believe in the power of sport to connect, inspire and transform our borough. Our people are our greatest asset and we’re always searching for the very best talent to come and join us. And in return, we offer a full range of employment benefits to ensure every member of staff feels valued and able to progress. It’s National Care Leavers Week 2024, and the Local Government Association has featured our ‘Cooking with Friends’ programme as part of their Step Ahead campaign, which showcases best practice. ‘Cooking with Friends’, a weekly group cooking session for care leavers, is more than a skills course – it’s a space where friendships are formed, confidence is built, and independence is nurtured. The video shows the ways in which cooking together each week helps to build a sense of community and belonging, as well improve essential life skills. The film is a testament to the creativity our team use to support care leavers, watch to hear more about the project from the officers (including Rosemary Frimpong and Sukpal Uppal) who deliver it, Cabinet Member Cllr Usaama Kaweesa, and the young people who benefit. Want to join an outstanding children’s social care team that change young lives every day? We’re looking for experienced staff to join us in Merton, see our vacancies here: https://lnkd.in/ecgBZC8b #NCLW https://lnkd.in/esPBXpxr
