What a fantastic evening at The Arup “Future of Making” event at Charlotte Street. Great to represent Lyons & Annoot Ltd and talk to many people about Circulabrick Fantastic presentations by Alexis Harrison of Arup David Storring of Morris+Company Henry Glogau of 3XN/GXN and Malina Dabrowska of Arup What the future holds- what is already available, and the benefits of more sustainable construction- all in line with our thinking of we have the trades, we have the skills and we have the ability and the want to make changes. If you have an opportunity go and see the exhibition at 80 Charlotte Street!! Many thanks to Arup for the invite. Fantastic to speak to Nikolay Shahpazov outside of LinkedIn and look forward to going and seeing Strocks shortly. Good to see my old mate Justin Underwood of JustFacades.com as well as my friends from Canada and France- Olivier and Frank What is clear is the U.K. has a fantastic opportunity to lead the world in sustainable construction and appeal to the vast majority of business who want to establish larger presences in like minded markets. #reuse #renew #rebuild #sustainability #embodiedcarbon #futureproof

We live in a world where we need to do more to ensure greater Sustainability of our Planet and also our lifestyles and the lifestyles of our future generations. The U.K. has the perfect opportunity to be the global leader in more sustainable practices and drive investment from abroad in our better built, more sustainable developments. It’s a fact most PLC want offices that are more sustainable, cheaper to operate and provide them with the kudos on the markets that they are forward thinking and working on the greater good. Circulabrick, an iniative from Lyons & Annoot Ltd (an SBTi validated company), does just that. We can; 1. Review projects to see ability to save and reuse bricks 2. Provide an estimated percentage of what bricks can be saved and reused. 3. Take down brickwork and clean bricks of lime but more importantly cement based mortar. 4. Match bricks to new manufacturers, preferably sustainably forward manufacturers and blend bricks. 5. Design and rebuild. But also guess what we believe the opportunity exists with concrete blocks also- replace bricks above with blocks! The opportunity is there, the knowledge is there. But let’s be honest it will often be cheaper to build with new bricks- but not always and definitely not more sustainable. This is not getting rid of new but reusing as much as we can- and the manufacturers doing more work on being more sustainable then have more opportunity. #reuse #recycle #brickisbest #lowercarbon #construction #futurebuild #leadingdevelopers #brickwork Rebecca Heald

While sitting on the train and writing on this years apprentice chat I just thought “Wow”! We have now just put some new apprentices as part of #MentorMe through a little bit of a change as an experiment- and they have had 4 weeks intensive at college before coming to site for the first time to see how it would work before deciding from this September how we would tackle things- remain as it always has been or change the format. We dont want apprentices to qualify quicker we want them to qualify better! So why did I say “wow”? I remember having a group around me last year at an event and they were marvelled at how a brickwork contractor’s PM on a project was a former Apprentice with the company- my answer was I would expect that to be the norm. It was only after I wrote the text below today that I realised that the sites these apprentices are going to have been affected by our apprentices who are now in Management roles- PM and Site. Russell as one of the first apprentices in the mid 1980s, Ziggy 25 years ago starting his apprenticeship and Mitchell and Jordan were a year apart 14 or so years ago. With Mentors and Managers like this how can these guys not have the greatest opportunity? Well done to all at Lyons & Annoot Ltd for pushing our Apprentice Opportunities! ❤️ Best of luck lads! Could this be one out your Bricklaying Apprentices/ Trainees/ Diploma Students? In line with the company’s, Lyons & Annoot Ltd, post and my reshare we have a few articles lorry loads of Lignacite Lignalite 140mm Blocks that we are happy to donate to a training college/ training charity within the London area. Two colleges have already benefitted and our own cohort of apprentices are currently using. Will make a good training block at 140mm wide but only 15kgs heavy. Unfortunatly a design change on a project meant it was too late to cancel these special blocks and they were manufactured and rather than skip them we would rather see our next generation benefit. Please reach out if we can help #brickwork #bricklayers #blockwork #concreteblocks #construction #constructioncollege
