At MacRebur® our mission is to help solve the waste plastic epidemic, reduce carbon emissions and to enhance roads
About us
It’s the end of the road for waste plastics At MacRebur®, our mission is to help solve three world problems; the waste plastic epidemic, poor quality of roads and carbon emissions. Our innovative solution involves processing waste plastics destined for landfill or incineration and adding them into asphalt for road construction and surfacing to extend and enhance the bitumen (fossil fuel) binder. The idea was born when our CEO, Toby McCartney, was working in Southern India with a charity helping people who work on landfill sites as ‘pickers’. Their job is to gather potentially reusable items and sell them on to be turned from rubbish into something useful again. Some of the waste plastics retrieved by the pickers were put into potholes, diesel poured all over them, and the rubbish set alight until the plastics melted into the craters to form a makeshift plastic pothole filler. Toby thought that our councils might ‘frown upon this’ in the UK! So, he got together with two friends, Nick and Gordon, and formed MacRebur®. The team came up with our innovative idea to take a mix of waste plastics, granulate them and add them into the making of an enhanced asphalt road. After years of tests and trials all over the world, MacRebur now promote 2 waste plastic additives into asphalt. All of the products meet various worldwide roads standards and have been rigorously tested against standard asphalt, bitumen and Polymer Modified Bitumen. Following an extensive R&D project by the Ministry of Works and NASS Group & Corporation in Bahrain, Nass Asphalt recently began surfacing areas of the new Busaiteen Development containing our newly approved MR6 polymer. By adding 7% of this dry-mix polymer to a BAPCO 60/70 bitumen at the point of production, Nass Asphalt were able to meet the required PG76E specification requirements set by the MED for their BRM14 mix. Opting for MacRebur Limited's MR6 polymer allows Nass Asphalt to maintain high quality asphalt mixtures while reducing CO2 emissions in their production processes. Many thanks to Craig Long and his team for overseeing this approval and to everyone at the Ministry of Works for their dedication to reaching this sustainability milestone. #asphalt #polymer #bahrain #ministryofworks #brm14 #approvalg #polymermodified #pmb #asphaltsurfacing #middleeast #sustainability #co2e #carbonreduction #asphaltplant #construction #polymermodifiedasphalt

With more and more emphasis on the requirement for Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), MacRebur is delighted to announce that the EPD for our MR6 product has now been fully verified and published. Why is an EPD important? EPDs offer the market a clear and structured pathway for construction product manufacturers to identify areas in which they can address their products' environmental impact across their entire lifecycle, from raw material sourcing to disposal We would like the thank Dr. Shashwat Ganguly and Yiqiang Zhao from Looper for guiding us through this process. Thank you also to South of Scotland Enterprise for their support and introduction to Sash and Looper. This process has been informative and extremely useful to us and our clients. #epd #verified #asphalt #polymer #mr6 #pma #gogreen #circulareconomy #offical #carbonreduction #co2e

With winter coming at us thick and fast, asphalt road surfaces are tested to their limits. October 2020 saw Norwegian asphalt producer, Velde Asfalt AS, resurface a section on road in the Rogaland Region of Western Norway. The purpose of this trial was to evaluate the performance of MacRebur’s MR6 product in comparison to a Premium Grade PMB with a high polymer content in bitumen modification. The attached report highlights the benefits of using MacRebur's recycled polymer MR6 additive in tough, winter conditions. #sustainability #carbonreduction #asphalt #polymer #sustainable #asphaltpaving #asphaltlife #pavingtheway #carbonfootprint #carbon #construction #infrastructure #polymermodifiedasphalt #roads #confidence #norway

It was never in doubt.......... #africa #pavingtheway #polymerasphalt #paving #rpm #asphalt #asphaltpaving #performance #quality #southafrica The Earthshot Prize
On the 22nd October 2019, the first plastic road in South Africa was laid in Jeffreys Bay. This road went on to win the Gold Award at the prestigious ECO-LOGIC awards the following year. Yesterday, Newzroom Afrika televised an update from the site and interviewed some of the local engineers and residents with regards to the performance of the road. It was safe to say that it is still in magnificent shape and was described as the "best road in Jeffreys Bay" #africa #pavingtheway #polymerasphalt #paving #rpm #asphalt #asphaltpaving #performance #quality #southafrica https://lnkd.in/espN3nZk

***GLENEAGLES PROJECT UPDATE JULY 2024*** We are delighted to share with you some updated photographs from the Gleneagles Hotel Project we did back in October 2018. This project recycled 3,240kg of plastic in addition to reducing the CO2E by 4,860kg compared to traditional asphalt. The road still looks fantastic especially for such a high trafficked area. #golf #gleneagles #sustainablepolymer #sustainability #circulareconomy #carbonreduction #polymer #asphalt #paving #asphaltpaving #asphaltplant #hotel #surfacing The Earthshot Prize
