I went to the Recruitment Agency Expo in London on Tuesday with two fantastic people, Morrin McManus and John Leslie Essuah-Mensah, and one thing is clear… AI and automation are no longer “nice to have” in recruitment, they’re a necessity. From discussions on streamlining processes, enhancing candidate engagement, and maximising recruiter efficiency, the role of AI is only getting bigger. Heck, there were even numbers showing that there are candidates who are in favour of being dealt with an AI agent! That surprised me… But alongside tech, one thing stood out: the importance of marketing. Recruitment is no longer just about filling jobs…it’s about building brands, engaging talent, and standing out in a crowded market. Buyers spend 70% of the sales cycle researching who they go for before making their decision, and if your brand doesn’t reflect what you say in meetings/pitches (even if what you say is 100% true), then you can easily lose out on opportunities which could have been converted. The agencies that master both tech & marketing will be the ones leading the way. And that’s something we’re definitely going to carry on doing and improving!
