Our Children’s Services team has been working in collaboration with Jersey Government, after the Minister for Children and Families, Connétable Richard Vibert, visited Medway last year. We were delighted to show the work of our Corporate Parenting Board and emergency foster care provision. Recently, our Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, Cllr Adam Price, and Portfolio Holder for Education, Cllr Tracy Coombs, accompanied by a senior member from our Children’s Services team, visited the States Assembly in Jersey. The team visited several youth projects, including a residential provision as well as The States Assembly and Government offices. The visit was hosted by the Minister for Children and Families, Connétable Richard Vibert, the Assistant Minister for Children and Families, Malcolm Ferey, and Donna Marriott, Government of Jersey’s Director Children’s Services. We look forward to a continued relationship working together to continue to improve children’s lives in both Medway and Jersey. #ChildrenMatterinMedway

*An update on the future of Innovation Park Medway* Yesterday, Medway’s Cabinet approved the recommendations for the development plans for both the northern and southern sites. The agreed development options coming forward are as follows: ➡️ Northern site: For our larger site, Medway’s Cabinet has agreed to plans to lease the land to BAE Systems until the end of 2028 to support its multi-million-pound upgrade at its Rochester facilities. The land will be used by BAE Systems to temporarily relocate their existing staff park and create a temporary staff car park while facilitating work on their new state-of-the-art factory later this year. The decision ensures the northern site will be used over the next few years. In the meantime we will work to appoint a development partner to help deliver a mix of industrial and mid-tech (office and research) commercial space. ➡️ Southern site: For the smaller southern site, we are looking to take forward the development of a viable care home and retirement units. Mid-tech commercial space will also be considered while further market testing for a care home is carried out. More information will be shared on the plans later this year. NEWS: Last night (Tuesday, 11 March) Cabinet agreed to a set of revised plans for Innovation Park Medway. In February 2024, a decision was taken to pause development following significant changes in the market in the wake of Covid, the way businesses work and the national financial climate. The renewed plans for the site will focus on a mix of industrial and mid-tech for the northern site, a care home and retirement units for the southern site, as well as plans to temporarily lease land to BAE Systems.
