Younger visitors and families to Ashford Town Centre will soon be able to get on board a new dedicated play space, as we have unveiled our exciting plans for a new train themed play area. Working with KOMPAN UK, the equipment will be specifically designed to reflect Ashford's unique heritage, incorporating elements related to our railway network, such as locomotives, carriages and station platforms. It has been designed with accessibility and access for children of all abilities. This is part of the Ashford Town Centre Reset (TCR) Action Plan and this thematic approach aims to: • Spark children's imaginations and create a fun and interactive space for families. • Serve as a conversation starter and/or meeting point. • Increase time spent in the town centre and money spent. • Prompt exploration of Ashford's past among residents and visitors. • Contribute to the town's cultural identity and sense of place. ℹ️ Read the full story on our website https://lnkd.in/ewfwpuDa

About us
Ashford Borough Council is a local authority which provides services to residents in Ashford, Tenterden and a large network of surrounding villages. Our services include keeping the streets clean and collecting rubbish, renting out social housing (council houses and flats), providing leisure facilities and play areas and processing council tax and housing benefits. We deal with local planning applications for everything from a conservatory to major developments, and if you are buying a home in the borough we can provide you with a comprehensive land search service. We issue licenses for taxis and licensed premises, look after parks and open spaces, and parking around the borough. We are based in offices in Tannery Lane. Our customer services team are based at the new Ashford Gateway Plus, and we have a further office in Manor Row, Tenterden. In all we employ around 415 people. Our achievements have been recognised by the Government with the receipt of two Beacon Awards for excellence and innovation since 2005, the most recent for promoting sustainable communities through the planning process. The council is only one of four local authorities nationally to be given this award.

Ashford Borough Council (ABC) is undertaking a “soft market testing” exercise to determine interest in being part of, and helping to fulfil, the long-term vision of Conningbrook Lakes Country Park. ABC has secured funding under Section 106 (developer contributions) to make improvements and add more facilities at Conningbrook Lakes. To ensure this funding is effectively used, we are going out to the market for support. “Conningbrook Lakes is a wonderful place to visit and enjoy," Cllr Kate Walder, portfolio holder for parks and recreation said. "We want to know if there are any local businesses who would like to work with ABC and partners to be part of the site’s exciting future, so we are undertaking a soft market testing exercise to see what interest there might be.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eZEWQs-j

On Saturday 23 November thousands of people will be lining the pavements of Ashford Town Centre as Carnival of the Baubles once again returns to kick off the festivities and light up the town centre with its stunning night-time giant lantern parade. The theme for this year’s parade is Ashford – The Place That Makes Us. Emergency Exit Arts, famed for their awe-inspiring displays each year at Glastonbury and The Lord Mayor's Show in London, are leading on the creations with Made in Ashford. Due to the Carnival’s increasing popularity, this year’s parade route has been reversed – now starting off from the Lower High Street at 5pm, finishing in spectacular style outside The Ashford Cinema at Elwick Place. A huge thank you goes to our festival and events sponsors Bucksford Law EKC Ashford College, Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce and YouFibre who are helping raise the profile of this year’s events and will be a part of the parade. Impressive fly through of Tenterden Leisure Centre, which has recently been revamped with a new pool, gym area and other facilities
Excited to share this FPV flythrough we did at Tenterden Leisure Centre! 🎥 What made this shoot unique was having so many people involved, which added a great dynamic to the video. It took careful planning to coordinate everything, but it was worth it to capture the energy and life of the centre. Thanks to everyone who made it happen! “Our administration is passionate about providing much-needed affordable housing for local people while also caring for the environment, so I'm delighted that Ashford and Canterbury have united to deliver a bold and innovative solution to the thorny problem of nutrient neutrality constraints on housebuilding. “I’m confident that Stour Environmental Credits Ltd will source and deliver the required mitigation to meet the pressing housing needs in the Stour catchment. This initiative is good for the environment, for responsible and controlled housing development, and for our local communities.” The thoughts of our Leader Cllr Noel Ovenden following plans for Ashford Borough Council and Canterbury City Council to establish a Joint Venture company to satisfy nutrient neutrality rules in the River Stour catchment area, enabling thousands of much-needed new homes to be built.
