It felt strange to be on the other side of the table for the first time, at the University of Bath autumn careers fair a couple of weeks ago. Having been working for Method Consulting for nearly 10 months now (time flies!), I have seen firsthand the huge potential for embodied and operational carbon savings in our built environments, made possible simply through informed decisions during the design process. We have all the tools we need to reach net zero. We just need to use them. Speaking to the students at the fair really highlighted the number of climate conscious, erudite young people appearing in this generation, and I am confident that as they enter the workforce we will see more of this positive shift in the way society operates.
Contributing to the local community and supporting local groups and charities is something we are immensely proud to be able to do, and it gives us great pleasure to announce our sponsorship of Ashton & Backwell United Football Club. We had a great afternoon yesterday meeting Students at the Networking for Sustainable Futures Event at the University of Bristol. There was a real enthusiasm in the room and we were asked some great questions about the roles we do as well as the working culture at Method. Hopefully we have inspired a few students to consider a role in the industry whilst giving an insight into low carbon and sustainable construction. On Thursday, to celebrate World Mental Health Day, we all got together at lunchtime to talk about mental health and do some fun activities. This year’s theme, set by the World Foundation of Mental Health, was ‘It’s time to prioritise mental health in the workplace’. Work can have a huge impact on our mental health. It can be good for our mental health, giving us a sense of purpose, boosting our self-worth, and providing opportunities to connect with others. But it can also be a source of stress and anxiety and contribute to developing or worsening mental health problems. As it is the Halloween season, it was very much a halloween themed lunch with lots of tasty treats!
