🚨 🌍 Weekly Commercial Solar Update 🌍 🚨 1️⃣ AMPYR Distributed Energy x Oakes Energy Services: AMPYR Distributed Energy (ADE) has announced a £50 million partnership with Oakes Energy Services to deliver ground-mounted solar projects for commercial and industrial clients. This is part of AMPYR's broader £300 million investment across the UK and Europe, accelerating net-zero transitions with simplified funding models. This marks their third major deal, following agreements with Harvest Green Developments Ltd(£10M) and Dowling Energy (£40M). 💰 2️⃣ Mitchells & Butlers PLC Solar Initiative: Leading hospitality brands like All Bar One, Toby Carvery, and Harvester are going green! Mitchells & Butlers is launching a solar panel rollout across its network of restaurants and pubs, with 100 panels already installed. The initiative will reduce 1,250 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to the energy usage of 500 homes. With consultancy Edge overseeing the project, the aim is to double installations by 2025. 🍽 3️⃣ Oxford's Solar Breakthrough: A new light-absorbing material developed at Oxford could revolutionize solar tech. This ultra-thin material—150x thinner than silicon—with efficiency inceasing from 6% to 27% within the space of 5 years, experts belive this will surpass 45% efficiency. Its flexibility and lightweight nature make it applicable to a wide range of surfaces, from buildings to vehicles, with significant potential in listed buildings where installation of traditional panels is challenging. 📈 What do you think are the most exciting advancements in renewable energy right now? The team is buzzing after winning the 'Most Ambitious' solution at Kraken x Tech Zero's hackathon. In just over a day, with the help of Donovan, Geoffrey, and Mrinalini, we built an interactive map that ranks London's commercial buildings by their solar potential. The tool synthesises data from the Land registry, the EPC registry, Ofgem, historical local irradiance, and UK Power Networks. A big thanks to Sophia, Sammy Fry, and the teams at Kraken and Tech Zero for putting on such an energising event ⚡️

Big thank you to Imogen Bolton, Jamie Vaughan Johnson and Shaojia Z. and the KPMG #Leaders2050 Network for hosting our co-founder Natasha Jones on their latest panel on 'ESG in the Age of AI'. Key takeaways: 🔥 Applications of AI in the ESG industry are multiplying and will have a disruptive effect on this typically service-led industry. We expect AI will slash time spent (and revenue) on routine data collection and calculation in favour of client education. 🏗 Atoms vs. Electrons. AI-powered products can make sustainability data and goal setting accessible for SMEs but will never replace the need for real-world intervention. We still lack green workers to enable the green transition (electricians, green infrastructure O&M etc). ⚖ Energy justice. Businesses can capitalise on electrification initiatives such as slashing their energy bill with on-site solar, hedging future energy prices with PPAs or generating extra revenue in demand flexibility programmes. However, in many cases, the capex is only affordable for ‘wealthier’ businesses which could intensify already existing advantages amongst consumers & businesses. ☠ Data Access. AI models are only as good as the data they are trained on. Access to energy data is still limited which holds the sector back from the types of innovation we saw in financial services thanks to PSD2.
