Modern slavery is an issue that’s hidden in plain sight across the UK. It’s when people lose their freedom and are exploited by other people for personal or commercial gain. To raise awareness of the issue, we created the Unfair Jobs Fair, a campaign to help put a stop to this awful crime. Why now, you may ask? Yesterday was the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, observed annually on December 2. This day is dedicated to eradicating modern forms of slavery, raising awareness about human trafficking, and advocating for the rights and dignity of all individuals, especially those who have been victims of these injustices. Watch the video and see how we turned what looked like an ordinary jobs fair into a lesson on how easily exploitation can occur in our everyday lives. #SlaveryAbolition #Recruitment

About us
Migrant Help exists to protect people affected by displacement and exploitation, helping them thrive as individuals and recover from their trauma. We support those most in need and least likely to find support elsewhere, whilst aiming to bridge community gaps and bring services and support together. We offer support and guidance to people seeking asylum, refugees and survivors of modern slavery across the UK. Whether someone has fled persecution, escaped from slavery or found themselves in a situation that they do not understand, Migrant Help offers advice, support and a place of safety. We are proud of our diverse and committed staff team. We currently employ people from more than 40 countries. Many of our advisers come from refugee backgrounds and have gone through the asylum process or experienced human trafficking themselves. These dedicated people contribute their skills and experience to help us provide high quality, innovative services that seek to meet the needs of the vulnerable men, women and children we support.

Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility - a day to celebrate the lives and contributions of trans and non-binary people everywhere by uplifting their voices and experiences - whilst also highlighting the disproportionate levels of oppression they face. While significant progress has been made in recent years, visibility alone is not enough. Trans and non-binary people continue to face threats to their rights, safety, and lives. This is especially true for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals seeking asylum around the world. Each year, tens of thousands of people seek asylum in the UK, including many who have been forced to flee their home countries due to persecution or stigma based on their gender identity. Transgender and gender non-conforming asylum seekers often face unique challenges throughout their journey. There is still much work to be done to ensure that all trans and gender non-conforming people seeking asylum are truly safe and supported. However, wonderful organisations such as Micro Rainbow are doing incredible work by providing direct support to these communities. They strive, as we all should, to create a world where LGBTQI+ people are safe, free from discrimination and persecution, and have equal opportunities in life - including access to employment, training, financial services, and housing. #TransgenderDayOfVisibility #TDOV #LGBTQIplus #RefugeesWelcome #SupportPeopleSeekingAsylum

Yesterday marked the 10th anniversary of the Modern Slavery Act, a crucial piece of legislation introduced to raise awareness and combat exploitation and modern slavery in the UK. Since its introduction in 2015, the landscape of modern slavery and human trafficking in the UK has evolved significantly, making it essential for us to reflect, reform, and recommit to building a future free from exploitation. To move forward into the next decade, we must ensure that we are prioritising the physical and psychological safety of survivors by ensuring their voices are heard and represented in our advocacy and support. At Migrant Help, we assist increasing numbers of survivors every year, but we know there are so many more who are not receiving the support they need. It is our collective responsibility to raise awareness, improve policies and work together to put a stop to slavery. #ModernSlaveryAct #EndHumanTrafficking #ModernSlavery

We often hear the misconception that people seeking asylum in the UK don’t want to work. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Research from Lift The Ban reveals that 94% of people seeking asylum want to find employment. Unfortunately, under current UK laws, most are not entitled to work until their refugee status is granted. Lifting this ban could bring an estimated £333 million per year into the UK economy. But the issue doesn’t stop there. Statistics show that 48% of asylum claims take longer than six months, with some individuals waiting years for a decision. This creates a situation of uncertainty and limbo for many. So, let’s use this information to change the narrative. It’s not a case of people not wanting to work; it’s that they simply can’t. #GetYourFactsStraight #RefugeesWelcome #SupportPeopleSeekingAsylum
