From Nourishment to Nothing: The Stock Cube Story 📖 Did you know that a small cube in your kitchen cabinet tells a big story about how we've lost touch with real nutrition? The tale begins in the 17th century with "portable soup" - dehydrated meat stock that sailors carried on long voyages. Fast forward to 1908, and Maggi introduced the first commercial bouillon cube. Convenience was born, but at what cost❓ Enter MSG - monosodium glutamate. Discovered in 1908 by Japanese chemist Kikunae Ikeda, MSG promised to add umami flavor to any dish. It quickly became a key ingredient in stock cubes, masking the lack of real meat or vegetables 😲 By 1913, at least 10 brands of stock cubes were competing for kitchen space. Their secret weapon? Up to 72% salt content and a hefty dose of MSG. Flavour was abundant, but nutrition was nowhere to be found. Here's what replaced the goodness of real bone broth: ❌ Excess salt - linked to high blood pressure and heart issues ❌ MSG - associated with headaches and digestive problems for some ❌ Hydrogenated fats - known to increase bad cholesterol ❌ Artificial flavours - masking the absence of real ingredients What we lost in the process: ✅ Collagen - essential for healthy skin, hair, and joints ✅ Amino acids - the building blocks for the human body ✅ Minerals - key players in immune function and overall health ✅ Protein - for energy, growth and repair of our bodies The rise of stock cubes coincided with a decline in home-cooked, nutrient-dense meals. We traded the healing power of slow-simmered bone broth for a quick fix of salt and artificial flavours 😱 But here's the good news: it's not too late to reclaim our culinary heritage. At Freja, we're bringing back the nourishing power of real bone broth. Imagine supporting your gut health, boosting your immunity, and promoting healthy aging - all from your daily broth without sacrificing the convenience of a stock cube. Ready to ditch your ultra-processed cubes and embrace real nourishment? Freja Instant Bone Broth is here 🙌 #NutritionRevolution #BoneBrothBenefits #RealFoodMovement #FrejaFoods

Traditional stocks and broths are the foundation of nutrition and flavour. So why are the supermarket shelves filled with little cubes of ultra-processed rubbish that have nothing to do with real stock? We decided that it’s time to make a change!  Other food categories have had their ‘better for you' moments, but nothing has really changed in the stock cube aisle for 30 years, and the clean-eating, functional food consumer is completely excluded from this category. So now, after nearly two years in planning and development, we are so excited to be launching Freja Instant Bone Broth! A 100% natural stock cube alternative, packed with protein and collagen, and that tastes absolutely amazing.  It's everything you want from an instant stock, but without any of the junk. Our mission to nourish the world with bone broth. And this takes us one step closer 👐 🌍 Available soon on our website, Amazon and Ocado! #health #upf #ultraprocessed #protein #collagen #bonebroth #fmcg

Today the Department for Business and Trade has published its annual Investing in Women Code which finds that venture capital fund managers who have signed up to the Code are more likely to invest in female founders. 32% of all venture capital deals made by Investing in Women Code signatories were in female-founded companies last year, compared to the market average of 28%, revealed in the latest report published today. This is the fourth year in a row that Investing in Women Code signatories have outperformed the wider market. The Investing in Women Code was founded in 2019 as a landmark government-led initiative in response to the Rose Review’s findings that a lack of funding was one of the most significant barriers to women seeking to effectively scale a business. Investing in Women Code Partners include the British Business Bank, British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA), UK Business Angels Association, UK Finance and Responsible Finance. Code Partners are responsible for managing data collection and reporting, on behalf of government. Mint Ventures is one of over 250 organisations who have signed up to the Code, showing the growing numbers of lenders and investors committed to increasing the levels of finance directed towards women-led businesses. Equal access to finance will boost the potential of female founded businesses and deliver on this Government’s priority to grow the economy. Jenny Tooth OBE, Executive Chair of the UK Business Angels Association, said: “With an increasing number of our Angel groups signing up to the Code, including a growing number of groups with a strong proportion of women angels, we can see the impact on women founders seeking and finding angel investment across the UK. Signatories are attracting increased level of women founders into their pipeline, whilst, for the first time, deals in women founders have surpassed the number of deals in male founders accessing investment, achieving over half the deals and share of investment from the Angel group signatories. The results from signing the code are clear to see, but we have much more to do to enable all women teams to access their full share of investment. We will be working to ensure that many more of our Angel groups identify the benefits of being part of the Investing in Women Code community in the year ahead.”   Find out more and download the report from our resources page: https://lnkd.in/eg_PudvG

Posting on entrepreneurship and growth | Exited founder | Mum of 4 | Building community @ Female Founders Rise | Speaker

I’ve invested £100k+ in female founders And there is a big reason why! I was shocked when I heard the stats around such a teeny tiny % of funding going to women I couldn’t believe it If we are striving for gender equality then how can this be happening in 2024? 2 years ago I decided to invest All the profits I made from selling my second home into investing in women And it was the best thing I ever did because I have learnt so much Met so many incredible people And literally changed my life Angel investing is risky because you are putting money into very early stage businesses but it’s often tax efficient in the At the moment only 14% of ‘angel’ investors are female. Historically men have been the ones making the investment decisions and I charge of the finances I definitely didn’t realise you could start angel investing with amounts of £1000 Or even much less on the crowdfunding platforms PS I am now paused on investing as I have run out funds for the time being but just made my first investment into a solo female fund Arāya Ventures which is so exciting 🙌🙌
