Ground has officially broken on the construction of the England – Scotland offsea interconnector which marks the start of this electricity superhighway 🎉 The Eastern Green Link 2 (#EGL2) project, developed by National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), involves the construction of the longest HVDC cable in the UK and is the country's largest electricity transmission project. The converter stations for the link will be built by the Bam-Hitachi energy joint venture, which was appointed in March. We're proud to support BAM UK & Ireland, as lead civil and structural designer on the UK’s single-largest electricity transmission project. Construction work on the project started on Thursday, 26 September with the symbolic simultaneous ground-breaking ceremony at either end of the planned cable. 👋 Meet Logan Park, our #geomatics practice leader in North America. Logan has more than 11 years of experience as a professional surveyor performing survey services for natural gas pipelines and highways, inspection of horizontal directional drilling (HDD), and boundary survey. "As geomatics practice leader, I see the benefits of our geomatics services through the lifecycle of projects. Often the first on site and the last to leave, the geomatics team is thorough in collecting important #geospatial information to support the design team, or in performing as-built surveys to make sure assets are constructed according to that design." In addition to land surveying, our geomatics capabilities encompass reality capture, including 3D scanning and modeling, drone aerial LiDAR data acquisition, and using remote control boats to capture bathymetric data. "We mostly support #energy projects, but are expanding into different types of projects, including transportation, water and wastewater, geotechnical, and environmental," says Logan. Interested in joining our survey and geomatics team? Check out our open positions: https://mottm.ac/3pd3obc #Hiring #MottMacLife

We are thrilled to welcome David Hawkins back to Mott MacDonald as a solar and BESS market sector leader in our Australian renewables team 🌞🔋 With a career that started in fossil-fuel plants and transitioned to #Renewable #Energy, including biomass and solar, David has worked on diverse projects from the oilfields of Mongolia to the sugar mills of Fiji. Advising on the finance and construction of Australia's first wave of utility-scale solar plants is one of his career highlights. David's journey with us began in 2006, where he was part of our team in Brighton. He rejoins us in Sydney, after successful stints with a solar start-up in California and a technical advisor in Australia. David is particularly excited about the integration of solar and BESS to generate cheap, dispatchable electricity through innovative technologies like DC-coupling and grid-forming inverters. His expertise and enthusiasm will be invaluable as we continue to push the boundaries of what's possible in the energy sector. What innovative solutions shaping the future of #Renewables are you most excited about? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

River degradation, coastal erosion, flooding, sea level rise, air quality issues, biodiversity loss, and urban heating… These are just some of the impacts of climate change that we're experiencing across the globe. Kun Shan Sum, our net zero, sustainability and ESG portfolio director for Asia, spoke at the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) Singapore Member Forum discussing climate and operational resilience. She shared the importance of risk assessments and nature-based solutions in responding to climate change. 🌳 Climate change risk assessments: Understanding the physical and transitional risks that climate change poses can help us to identify, prioritise and implement adaptation pathways and actions to build resilience into our infrastructure. 🌳 Nature-based solutions: Using interventions that work with nature and complement traditional engineering approaches to sequester carbon, enhance biodiversity and improve resilience to the effects of extreme weather. Done the right way and in the right place, they can also produce a range of economic, environmental and social benefits. What do you believe should be our top priorities for creating climate-resilient infrastructure? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
