COP16 Colombia in Cali 🇨🇴 comes to a close today, after two weeks of negotiations and side events. Working with the Nature Positive Initiative, we wanted to hero the lives of local biodiversity and people from the region in the Nature Positive Pavilion. Layering the Nature Stripes from 'grey to green' 💚 through imagery and colour, we aimed to inspire hope and action amongst attendees, and crucially, demonstrate a tangible link between the outcomes of the conference and real impact on the ground to halt and reverse biodiversity loss - both locally and globally 🌎. The pavilion was a hub for discussions 🗣️ around nature metrics and progress towards Nature Positive throughout the summit. Attendees were surrounded by stunning imagery of iconic species like the jaguar, spotted eagle ray, green sea turtle 🐢, and the red-fronted macaw, as well as powerful stories from Serranía de Manacacías (a new national park in Colombia) and the new Forest Watcher app 📲 by Global Forest Watch. #Colombia #COP16 #Biodiversity #BiodiversityCOP #NaturePositive

👏 Huge step forward! Today the Science Based Targets Network (SBTN), has announced the first-ever corporate adoption of freshwater and land targets by trailblazing companies – an essential move in driving bold action for a nature positive future.🎉 The positive milestone comes as world and business leaders gather at #COP16Colombia, where urgent action to preserve biodiversity and stop the destruction of nature have been at the heart of negotiations. Together, we are raising corporate ambition for a nature positive future. Erin Billman, Executive Director of Science Based Targets Network, said: “With global nature loss accelerating at an unprecedented rate, it’s clear that urgent, decisive action is required from governments and business alike to reverse and halt this trend. For companies, this means understanding their material impacts and dependencies on nature, and taking ambitious science-based action to address and mitigate those impacts. “Our corporate pilot has shown that science-based targets for nature are both feasible and valuable, closing a critical gap in corporate sustainability. We’re pleased to see GSK, Kering and Holcim lead the way by publicly adopting the world’s first science-based targets beyond climate; demonstrating that a clear and credible pathway for ambitious action for nature is possible. The time for companies to act is now — responsibly, urgently, and with the ambition that matches the scale of the challenge.” 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eTMakv4e 🔗 Explore the companies' targets in our new Target Tracker: https://lnkd.in/eepJiVtA #SBTN #ScienceBasedTargets #ForNature #CorporateSustainability #NaturePositive #COP16 #KMGBF

What is 30x30 and what progress have we made towards this goal? ➡️ Swipe to found out, and discover more below. The 30x30 target is not just about achieving 30% coverage by 2030, it also calls for protected areas to be effectively managed, equitably governed, established in places that most need conserving and representative of global biodiversity 🌱, and that protected areas are well connected. And the IUCN has set an even higher target, with 'Motion 101' calling for 50% protection 📈 with a minimum of 30% by 2030. Whilst the world 🌍 is making progress towards this global goal, many designated areas are poorly managed and enforced, or do not involve Indigenous and local communities in the management process. Yesterday at COP16 in Cali, the 'Protected Planet Report 2024' 📑 was released by UN Environment Programme, IUCN and IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) to provide critical insights towards protecting land and sea. Over the next few days, you're going to see photos of my Biodiversity Jenga monument pop up all around the #COP16 conference. If you see someone sharing a photo or selfie of the tower, please send them THIS video so they can understand the Story behind the tower and the enormous community effort that was necessary to bring this to life. This installation has the potential to symbolize global action on Biodiversity—but only if we spread its message far and wide. I'm so proud of the team that made this project possible, and I have massive gratitude to SeaTrees, Chris Larsen, and the entire Colombian team that brought this project to life. Video directed by June Schreiner, cinematography and editing by Manuel Gussmann Check out www.BiodiversityGame.org to see exclusive behind the scene images, and to learn how we can put blocks back in with the SeaTrees Biodiversity Blocks.

As Week 2 of COP16 kicks off in Cali, Colombia, we're taking a look at some of the country's iconic wildlife species - and how their populations are faring. 🦅 Andean condor: This powerful bird is found in the Andes mountain range which stretches through central Colombia. 🐢 Green turtle: These sea turtles come ashore to nest along Colombia's coastline. 🐻 Spectacled bear: The only bear species native to South America, the spectacled bear roams the cloud forests on the flanks of the Andes. 🐒 Cotton-top tamarin: These small but mighty primates are unique to Colombia's tropical forests. We need strong leadership at COP16 and global collaboration to put stronger policies and protections in place to safeguard the future of these incredible species, and those around the world. #BiodiversityLoss #BiodiversityCrisis #COP16 #COP16Cali #Colombia #Conservation #Wildlife #WildlifeProtection COP16 Colombia
