We are thrilled to share some incredible feedback from one of the lead clinicians at the newly completed Ealing Community Diagnostic Centre with London North West Healthcare NHS Trust. This kind of recognition is so rewarding, especially when it reflects the collaboration and dedication of everyone involved.
“I wanted to congratulate you on doing such a fantastic job with the project. It has really turned out well and is now our standard bearer for radiology improvements in our Trust.”
From day one, the staff and key stakeholders played an essential role in shaping the design. Through collaborative workshops, we listened to the needs of the users —everything from workflow, patient privacy to staff visibility and comfort. This feedback was instrumental in ensuring that the final design reflects the voices of those who experiences the space every day.
The Ealing CDC was a mix refurb & new-build 2 storey development, providing an independent entrance with ambulant and accessible external access, allowing for a symbiotic interdependent relationship with the existing hospital. The centre encompasses an extensive radiology department including 2 CT’s, 2 MRI’s, an X-ray, a DEXA and 4 Ultrasound, along with Cardiology, Lung Function and consultation services.
One of the highlights of this project was the focus on intuitive wayfinding. The interior design colour-blocked the separate service areas, making it easier for patients to identify and navigate to their destination. The design came to life through collaboration with users as we created art together by scanning everyday objects such as fruit, flowers and musical instruments; developing them into custom graphics for the waiting areas. The result was a calm, playful space that makes waiting more enjoyable.
This project demonstrated the power of user-centric design and the integration of therapeutic elements. The strategic use of colour and art to support mental well-being in healthcare settings is an approach we always practice, and sometimes, something delightful is created. We couldn’t be prouder of our collaboration with the hospital and the team’s effort in making this vision a reality.
