About us
The National Housing Federation is the voice of affordable housing in England. We believe that everyone should have the home they need at a price they can afford. That's why we represent the work of housing associations and campaign for better housing. Our members provide two and a half million homes for more than five million people. And each year they invest in a diverse range of neighbourhood projects that help create strong, vibrant communities. Our mission is to support and promote the work that housing associations do and campaign for better housing and neighbourhoods.

"Unlike the private sector, the social housing sector can't access funding to make the homes of social renters safe." Ruth Davison from Islington & Shoreditch Housing Association Ltd on BBC's Radio 4 Today programme. Long-term funding for building safety is key to ensure money is not diverted from existing residents and new social housing. 👉 NAO report: https://lnkd.in/e-icTmNE

It is crucial to understand the potential impact of severe weather on a resident’s home, such as gale force winds, rainwater bursting riverbanks, flooding homes, and frost bursting pipes. The My Home Contents Insurance Scheme, administered by our Preferred Supplier, Thistle Insurance Services, can offer protection that in the event of one of these incidents, they would be covered, and be able to repair or replace their belongings. Our executive director, Rhys Moore, on BBC News yesterday reacting to #Budget2024 🏘️ Pleased to see £500m of new money into the affordable homes programme. It's emergency funding but it'll make a real difference. 🏘️ We welcome reform on Right to Buy. There are currently 4 million people in need of a social home. 🏘️The spring will be the critical period, we hope to see a long term plan on housing, long-term investment and a bigger affordable homes programme.

🚨 BUDGET 2024🚨 👉 £500m top-up to the affordable homes programme is welcome and something we’ve been urgently calling for to prevent a collapse in delivery. 👉 We support the government’s decision to review Right to Buy discounts; it is vital we protect our existing social homes. 👉 We are pleased to see some progress on funding for building safety work in social housing. However, additional long-term funding is key to ensure money is not diverted from existing residents and new social housing. 👉 We look forward to working with the government on a new rent settlement consultation. This will provide long-term certainty for social housing providers and transparency for residents. 👉 The £3.4bn kickstart for the Warm Homes Plan is a welcome first step towards the government's manifesto commitment of £13.2bn, helping to tackle fuel poverty and the climate emergency. 👉 Disappointing not to see funding for supported housing, which is currently in crisis with 1 in 3 providers forced to close schemes in the last year.
