Collaboration is crucial to managing land in a more sustainable way.   Our Chair, Tony Juniper, joined the inaugural meeting of National Estate for Nature.   In a statement he said, “If we are to reverse the historic declines in nature, we must take urgent action at every level to restore nature on the ground. This meeting is an important step in securing a strong commitment from landowners across the country to collaborate on managing land in a more sustainable way.” “Nature matters to our economy and growth; it gives us security. We all have a crucial role in finding long-term solutions for key challenges.”

The future of sustainable fishing is bright. ✨ Forward-thinking fishers are using LED lights to attract and catch scallops. This method has a lower impact than traditional dredging: delivering pot-caught, seabed-safe scallops to people’s plates. Natural England is keen to facilitate the development of new fisheries where innovation can help reduce pressures on our seas. Today our Chief Executive, Marian Spain, joined a summit with senior health leaders to discuss the opportunities and next steps for social prescribing across England. Natural England has completed a review of its approach to ‘wild take’ licensing. Following this two-year review, we have announced that licences to take birds of prey from the wild for falconry and aviculture will not be issued, other than in exceptional circumstances. Drones and AI detection technology are helping us monitor one of England’s largest grey seal colonies. 🦭 Thousands of grey seal pups are born every year on Norfolk’s sweeping beaches. Counting them accurately without getting too close can be a challenge. Using drones and AI, we have been able to enhance the accuracy of our monitoring.
