NEC was used by United Utilities to upgrade a major water treatment works in northwest England under an £18 million contract awarded to Mott MacDonald Bentley | MMB. Despite challenges like COVID-19 and aging infrastructure, the work was completed on time and within budget. Mike Tillery, delivery manager at United Utilities, said that the NEC requirement to regularly submit and agree revised programmes throughout the contract helped avoid clashes with construction and operational activities and contributed to the project’s success. The project was shortlisted for the Upgrade and Renewal Project of the Year in the 2024 British Construction Industry Awards.
