AI, as we see it at Neol, holds immense potential to enhance the experiences of knowledge workers and organizations alike. This year, we’ve been working hard to develop new ways of utilising AI within our new Hub, which captures Neol’s nature as both a network and a collaboration platform. And we agree with Neol Creative Leader Ehab Bandar that achieving AI’s full potential for creatives and other knowledge workers “will require collaboration like we’ve never seen before.” We’re excited to share his thoughts on "AI and the UX Design Reckoning" where he also notes, “The next phase of creativity is one that will be shaped by how well we humanize AI to solve intractable problems, simplify our lives, while also enriching it. This is not solely a technology problem, or a design problem, or a business problem." Read more from Ehab, here ↘: https://lnkd.in/dXvnG24h

Wednesday, June 26 was the UK’s hottest day of 2024 so far. Perfect timing for the kyu House pop-up for London Climate Action Week! Last week, kyu Collective companies including IDEO, Lexington, Gehl - Making Cities for People, and others hosted dynamic sessions that connected attendees and inspired them to create real, impactful change in the climate and health spaces. Want to know more about what you missed? 🌍 “What would a healthcare system look like if you kept human and planetary health in balance?” asked IDEO’s Sergio Fregoni and Matthew Higham. IDEO created a board game to help participants explore what the world could look like in 2044.  🏥 How can patients drive climate-positive outcomes? Lexington directors Felicity Haslehurst and Alison Woodhouse unveiled research driving home how vital patient engagement truly is. Health shouldn’t be siloed but considered by every government department and across all policies. 💡 Where can we be more impactful in the climate x health space? Gehl - Making Cities for People’s Jeff Risom and Rebecca Morley talked air quality activism and the importance of positive messaging. “Children think they can die from climate change,” said Morley. “We should also talk about the solutions. Later in the week, SYPartners partnered with Elevation Barn to bring together an evening of elevating impact at Home House, and ATÖLYE x Metabolic, hosted a session spotlighting actionable, investable strategies to mobilize the critical funding necessary for a sustainable future. Ultimately, when tackling massive, global issues, one of the ways we can learn and relate to each other is through the art of play — and we certainly had plenty of fun at this iteration of kyu House. 🗓️ What’s coming up next for kyu House? New on the Neol blog! 🔖 Creative Leader Fanny Eliaers shares her story on escaping the silos of traditional leadership models, moving towards life-affirming economies and regenerative leadership practices, and how she created a path to put it all into practice through "The Flock". 🕊 "Our ideas of leadership – what it is or isn’t, what it could and should be – have been in a state of flux for some time now. From conversations around burnout to holistic workplace practices, the amount of attention we pay to what many have deemed a crisis of leadership far outstrips the amount of airtime we give to actually creating new forms of it." 🔗 Read Fanny's story here: https://lnkd.in/dGhePtDA

The recent release of the European Union's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act makes Neol Community Member Paul Hamilton's question on the use of GenAI in organizations even more interesting. Check out Paul's poll below - we'd love to know how organizations you're working with are approaching GenAI. 📊 And have a look at the EU AI Act here: https://lnkd.in/d3933wu8

So where are you at with GenAI - structured, unstructured, emergent or waiting for now? It's been a bit of a week for GenAI with new mind blowing releases from OpenAI and Google within 24 hours of each other, and even Scarlett Johansson weighing in So here's a chance to take a quick breather and let's get an idea of where everyone is with their organisation's approach to GenAI - you have four options: Structured holistic approach - we're looking at GenAI across the organisation with experts, training and support available and sharing learning of what works Local sponsored approach - some areas of the company have leaders sponsoring local initiatives and providing support (time, resources etc) Emergent approach - in some parts of the organisation some enthusiastic people are trying things out Wait and see - we're waiting to to see what happens, not doing anything with GenAI yet No value judgement attached to this at this point, it's still early days The poll will run for a few days and I'll follow up with what else I've seen - appreciate your input (which is anonymous) and please do share far and wide, the more responses the better #ai #innovation

Earlier this year Neol Creative Leader Karimah Hudda led a community wide event at Neol, designed around the theme of Regenerative Resonance. Through her guidance, our community explored ways to align their purpose more deeply with nature and humanity, fostering a sense of connection and purpose. More recently, Karimah joined us for “Between the Two of Us” with the House of Beautiful Business, where she co-led a session on collective regeneration. In Karimah’s words: “The deeper and longer we stay in this Regenerative Resonance, the more we remember. The more we remember, the more intuitively we shift our ways of living, leading, livelihood and legacy to ensure that there is plenty for all of us, in this generation, as well as for all in generations to come.” 🌎 Read more on Regenerative Resonance from Karimah below, and be sure to connect with her via illumine.earth! 🌱 https://lnkd.in/ddxJHkwS

"A re-generative economy will require us to become more comfortable and accepting of designing for things to end . . . How should we develop comfort and acceptance with the end of life?" Creating a truly 'Life-Centered Economy' means planning for and embracing endings, as beautifully said by Neol Creative Leader Kriss Taylor, who joined us recently in Tangier for "Between the Two of Us" with the House of Beautiful Business. In our journey towards a regenerative economy, one of the critical shifts needed is in our approach to design — particularly, designing with the end in mind. Sustainable futures are built on cycles that allow for renewal and rebirth. This means that we need to become comfortable with the idea that every product, service, and initiative has a lifecycle that can and maybe sometimes should gracefully conclude, or at minimum, be more adaptable to change. So, how do we develop this comfort with endings? It begins with understanding the life cycles of what we create and embedding sustainability into the design phase. As Kriss says, these are questions to continue exploring. In thinking of strategies to help make 'endings' a more integrated part of our economic systems, we're also looking to his thoughts on more imaginative futures and working with complexity. Check out his notes below: ↘

Just returned from an incredible gathering in Tangier centred around the ‘Life-Centered Economy’ hosted by the House of Beautiful Business Along with fellow Neol creative leaders Gabriela Néspoli , Alice Katter , Karimah Hudda , Fanny Eliaers 🧿 we delivered a session of introspective reflection at the conclusion of what was an intense few days of intake. Big thank you to Neol's own Ali Özgür Arslan and Kerem Alper for their support. 📝Some highlights from the many thoughts shared and discussed: 1. 80% of trends you read originate from just 6 countries, with the majority of it coming from only 6 companies. This points to a narrow and growing loss of imagination. We are more acutely aware of the challenges ahead, but distinctly lacking any imagined desirable futures in which to aim for. These imagined futures will be integral if we are to build intergenerational ambition. How can we begin to widen and regain our imagination? 2. Modern science gave us the ability to build complex systems, but not necessarily the ability to understand them. We too often confuse the complicated with the complex, trapped in a reductionist mindset. Complexity cannot be predicted; it cannot be managed. How can we learn not to try to manage complexity, but to work with it? 3. A re-generative economy will require us to become more comfortable and accepting of designing for things to end. Both non-viable solutions need to be replaced and resources need to be reused and re-generated. Rather than trying to fight against it, we must embrace the natural cycle of creation, usage, and regeneration. How should we develop comfort and acceptance with the end of life? Some great questions to continue exploring, that definitely link back to shortcomings in the way we innovate today.
