I decided to walk home alone and was hit by a car that never stopped. A passerby called an ambulance while I lay on the ground.’ Last year, Molly was hit by a car while crossing the road, but thanks to her treatment at Manchester Royal Infirmary, she now aspires to become a surgeon. Molly, 22, sustained severe injuries, including a broken collarbone and pelvis. Rushed to Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Molly underwent 12 hours of surgery to fix her pelvis and manage internal bleeding, followed by additional operations. ‘After seeing the work of the surgeons and other health professionals, I know this is the medical path I want to follow. They were amazing, knowledgeable, and I got to see some of the ins and outs of the different areas they work in.’ If, like Molly, you’re interested in starting a rewarding career in healthcare, visit https://lnkd.in/dUN5tfD to find your path. #NHS #NHSCareers

Ruby is a Student Midwife who has created an app to help raise awareness of the symptoms of maternal and neonatal conditions on black and brown skin. ‘The idea for ‘Melanatal’ came about because of my experience as a student midwife. During my training, I saw a lack of representation and inclusivity of Black and Brown mothers and babies.’ The ‘Melanatal’ app will offer patients and clinicians visual guides to the signs and symptoms of conditions including jaundice, pre-eclampsia and mastitis. ‘The aim is to improve earlier detection and diagnosis.’ The creation of the app, which is still in its pilot phase, has been supported through the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme. If you have an idea, innovation or creation that you believe would improve healthcare, apply to one of our entrepreneur support programmes now. Agnes, now 87-years-old, was a midwife when she went through babyloss in 1973. However, through her personal experience, she strived to improve care for other families who experienced the same. Founding ‘Born Whilst Sleeping’, a programme at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust aimed to help families suffering from babyloss, Agnes developed a sanctuary for grieving. This week, Daily Mirror’s Pride Of Britain Awards celebrated Agnes, who was also the first Black Nursing Officer in Leicester, by presenting her with a Community Hero award. It was presented to her by Gordon and Tana Ramsay. 📷 Daily Mirror

Black barber shops have long served as more than just a place to get a haircut – it's a haven for the community, a place to discuss life's challenges and triumphs, and no one knows this more than Ivelaw. This #BlackHistoryMonth, see how NHS North Central London ICB and Islington Council have partnered with local barber shops, like Ivelaw’s, to deliver the innovative Barbers Round Chair Project and make a real difference in mental health support. The project aims to break down barriers to mental health support and create safe pathways into community mental health services. Barbers are trained in how to become mental health ambassadors and talk to clients about their mental health in a safe space and signpost them to professional support when needed. This initiative serves as a testament to how the NHS continues to work with partners to reduce mental health inequalities. Well done Ivelaw for being a beacon of support and a true community leader! 💙

Check out the new fully automated kiosk that teaches CPR at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As the first of its kind in an NHS hospital, the kiosk teaches patients, visitors and staff how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) using an inbuilt mannequin and screen guide. Eve Flockton, Bradford Teaching Hospitals Trust's resuscitation training lead said: ‘Everyone should know how to do CPR effectively as you never know when you might need it. ‘The chances are it could be someone you know as most cardiac arrests happen in the home or workplace.’ Knowing CPR can mean the difference between life and death. Learn how to perform life-saving CPR at https://lnkd.in/dF4vv4k #CPR

NHS staff will be able to anonymously report incidents of sexual misconduct at work, as part of a new national framework aimed at creating safer workplaces across the health service. The new Sexual Misconduct Framework provides clear guidance on how to recognise, report and act on sexual misconduct, with the introduction of anonymous reporting to ensure every staff member feels supported in coming forward. A range of resources and specialist support will be available, including trained allies and expert investigators. This marks a significant step in tackling sexual misconduct and ensuring a safer environment for all NHS staff. You can also improve your knowledge of how to identify and respond to sexual assault and abuse by completing this e-learning programme, designed for health and care professionals. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ey_Ggufb
