In a recent address at the ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of ADNOC Group, urged the global energy industry to embrace its responsibility in leading the world toward a more #sustainable and economically inclusive future. Dr. Al Jaber underscored the industry’s unique position to drive change at a critical juncture, highlighting the urgent need to decarbonise and adopt new technologies to meet evolving #energy demands sustainably. A significant focus was placed on harnessing the "exponential growth" of technologies like #AI, which, he noted, could play a transformative role in boosting efficiency and reducing environmental impact across the sector. As John Begley and Michael Diamond join industry leaders at the 40th edition of ADIPEC, H.E. Dr. Al Jaber’s keynote delivery at the opening ceremony serves as a powerful reminder of the industry’s potential to foster meaningful progress on a global scale. https://lnkd.in/eZ6wurkR

The path to a sustainable future lies not just in innovative technologies but in empowering the workforce to meet the demands of the green economy. At this year’s Energy Tech Summit, Michael Diamond, Managing Director at Norman Broadbent, joined a distinguished panel which included Juliana Garaizar (Malaika Ventures), Christopher Cederskog (Sunhero), Jamie Heywood (Zolar), and Danny Cotter (The Westly Group), as they shared their perspectives on innovative strategies to address critical #workforce gaps in the #energy sector. A key challenge highlighted by Michael is the declining number of skilled blue-collar workers to implement cutting-edge solutions. He offered insights into the root causes and potential strategies to address this skills gap, which is essential for industry growth and resilience. 🔗 You can now watch the full discussion here - https://lnkd.in/e7AxcE9C

Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of hosting an intimate dinner with Scotland's leading board and executive figures at the stunning Gleneagles Townhouse in Edinburgh, hosted by Michael Diamond, Sean Buchan, and Kevin Davidson. We were honoured to welcome Jonathan Neale, a distinguished Board Chair and former CEO of McLaren F1 and COO of McLaren Group, who led the discussion. Jonathan shared his remarkable career journey, from the aerospace and defence sector to over 15 years of executive leadership at the forefront of motorsport. He also spoke about his transition to a portfolio of Board Chair roles across both public and privately-owned companies. Jonathan’s insights captivated the room as he drew intriguing parallels between the relentless competitiveness of F1, the business of entertainment, and the world of senior executives and Board members. He spoke about setting high standards, fostering a winning culture, and driving performance—skills that transcend industries and environments. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Jonathan for his generosity in leading such a thought-provoking discussion, and to our guests for their engaging contributions throughout the evening.

Our recent survey in collaboration with BDO UK LLP of around 200 UK small and mid-cap #board members, revealed a startling gap in #ESG prioritisation, far below immediate economic and people-focused challenges despite the well-documented climate emergency. Following this, Tanya Gass has written an article in Sustainable Views on the dangers of ignoring ESG and the importance of integrating it into business strategy. You can download the full report here: https://lnkd.in/e6w4UqBu #Boards #NEDs #ESG #Governance #ClimateTransition
Small and medium sized UK companies are struggling to implement environmental, social and governance principles into their business strategy, Tanya Gass partner at professional services firm Norman Broadbent Plc’s board practice writes in Sustainable Views. "Leaving aside the wider impact on society, the consequences of neglecting ESG can be immediate and far-reaching for business. In the short term, companies may face lost investor confidence, missed funding opportunities, and potential exclusion from increasingly ESG-conscious supply chains," she says. Insightful and inspiring few days in Vienna at the Dii Desert Energy Leadership Summit. The energy and optimism was great to see with Industry leaders showcasing exciting advancements, with the MENA region gearing up for some seemingly monumental developments. One statement that really stood out was from Cetin Nazikkol “Just as we united globally to tackle COVID-19, we need that same collective effort for renewable energy" This powerful message reflects the urgency and collaboration required to accelerate the energy transition. As the world came together for a global crisis, we must now harness that same spirit for sustainable energy solutions. The path ahead is clear, and it’s time to act collectively. Congratulations to Dii Desert Energy, Cornelius Matthes & Paul van Son on their 15th Anniversary. #DiiLeadershipSummit24

The latest Hydrogen Insights 2024 report from the Hydrogen Council, in collaboration with McKinsey & Company has been released and highlights the progress in the global hydrogen industry over the past few years. Investments in hydrogen projects have surged 8x since 2020, reaching $680 billion in 2024. While the momentum is strong, challenges like regulatory uncertainty and macroeconomic headwinds remain, requiring continued effort and collaboration to stay on track with climate goals. My Key Takeaways : 1. Massive Investment Growth: A 90% increase in projects reaching final investment decision (FID) reflects growing industry maturity and global commitment. 2. 7x Expansion in Project Pipeline: Over 1,570 hydrogen projects are now in development, with significant contributions from North America, Latin America, and Europe. 3. Challenges Ahead: Macroeconomic factors and regulatory delays could reduce expected hydrogen production, with 12-18 Mt expected by 2030 out of the 48 Mt announced. 4. Infrastructure Gaps: Electrolysis capacity has grown to 375 GW by 2030, but hydrogen infrastructure like refueling stations is lagging, especially in Europe and North America. 5. Investment Needs: To meet net-zero goals, an additional $335 billion in investments is needed across infrastructure and end-use sectors, with a particular focus on scaling up supply. The hydrogen industry is at a turning point, but we need an 8x increase in investments by 2030 to keep pace with global climate targets. Now is the time to act and unlock the potential of hydrogen in the clean energy mix. Full Report Below. https://lnkd.in/e_8MgJ3b
