  • We know that to sit in a leadership position within a business is to hold a lot of responsibility, most of which extends beyond business and to the region and the world around us. Whether it’s the welfare and livelihoods of employees, the satisfaction and safety of consumers, or the impact on society and the environment, the actions and operations of business can have huge ramifications.   This morning’s virtual session, led by Pecan Partnership, brought together members to explore the importance of governing workplace culture effectively.    “Culture is the execution mechanism by which we deliver strategy” JØrgen Vig Knudstorp, CEO at Lego   In the session which has been developed in collaboration with Chairs, NEDs, CEOs, and regulators, including our very own Joëlle Warren, we discussed perspectives on: - The benefits of effective culture governance—and the risks of neglecting it - Understanding different roles in shaping workplace culture - How workplace culture develops and evolves over time - The role of different parts of an organisation in developing and maintaining a culture, including the board   Our thanks to the Ella Overshott and Andrew Loveless for a fantastic session

  • The North West of England has long been a cornerstone of the UK’s industrial prowess, and today, it stands as the heart of the nation's nuclear industry. Ahead of Nuclear Week in Parliament this guest blog from Rachel O'Donnell, NWBLT member and Chair of the Northern Nuclear Alliance reflects on the sector’s historical importance, and its role in the future success of the region. As the UK races to achieve its net-zero targets and transition to a low-carbon economy, the North West’s nuclear sector is more vital than ever. With unmatched expertise, an extensive supply chain, and a booming economy, the region plays an irreplaceable role in shaping the future of energy, jobs, and innovation. • Threats from cyber-crime are increasing and becoming more sophisticated, representing an issue for businesses in all sectors and sizes. While cyber-crime is a threat to organisations, we also benefit from being in a region that has significant strengths and experience in tackling cyber-crime. In our first online team meeting of 2025 we heard from Professor Daniel Prince, Co-Director of Security Lancaster who outlined the work of the North West Cyber Corridor initiative to help business counter this increasing threat, including the issue of online fraud driven by AI, and how AI might change the nature of cyber-attacks. The key takeaways he gave us, was to celebrate how good the North West region is in this sector, but also that there is still huge potential to be unlocked. https://lnkd.in/gEiDfXMQ

  • “To lead, you need followers” Today’s NWBLT’s Rising Stars, Diversity Drivers and members of the People & Skills group joined a fantastic session with Professional Coaches, Cordie Gwilym and Lyndsey Lynch, as part of Coco’s Influence and Persuasion Workshop. We explored our strengths and superpowers and how we might overuse them and self-sabotage our capacity as leaders to influence and persuade when we are caught up in anxiety, stress and overwhelm. Coco Operative Community Interest Company bring social impact technology and positive intelligence (PQ) to public and private sector organisations, they work with clients to rethink relationships and wellbeing to enhance the effectiveness of interactions and foster sustainable behavioural change, boosting performance and the bottom line. It was a brilliant, engaging session, and will have helped many in the group to think about their New Year’s resolutions
