The North East Screen team had another busy week with meetings, events, and exciting industry developments! On Tuesday, the BBC held a press screening in London for Smoggie Queens, an eagerly awaited LGBTQIA+ comedy, supported by the North East Production Fund. We can't wait for it to hit the screens! The Skills team supported Crew Academy trainees Kate Smith and Isabella Dinsdale, who shadowed the Art Department on a production filming in the Northern Studios in Hartlepool. They both did such a good job that they were offered an extra paid day on set! We also hosted a Crew Academy Bootcamp for 24 aspiring trainees, helping to bridge skills gaps and build upon our region's crew base. The Film Office is busy preparing for next week’s Scout About, showcasing stunning local locations to attract more productions to the region. Our Talent and Business Development team met with TTM Management to discuss potential collaborations in film and TV supply. What a brilliant two days exploring some of the North East’s stunning locations! Yesterday, the Location Managers explored the dark corridors of Ushaw College, a stunning piece of Gothic architecture steeped in mystery. After that, we showcased the impressive Tees Barrage, an incredible facility in the Tees Valley area that has been key to iconic water scenes in the BAFTA winning film 1917 and the recent ITV drama After the Flood🌊 We wrapped up the day with visits to Sir William Turner’s Almshouses—brimming with historic charm—and the atmospheric Kirkleatham Stables. A massive thank you to all the Location Managers who attended, the local authorities, and everyone who works at these incredible locations for making the two days such a success. It’s been two days filled with haunting inspiration and cinematic gems! We hope to see these stunning locations on screen where they belong! #ScoutAbouts #FilmedInNE #TVIndustry #FilmIndustry #FilmLocations #Locations #ScreenTourism #NorthEastScreen
