💡 What do you do if your only rail route out of London is continually soured by an unpleasant customer experience before you’ve even got on the train? With the likes of Euston station having a practical monopoly over several routes north, there’s not a whole lot customers can do but put up with it. We outline our thoughts on customer experience within the UK's rail hubs below. ➕ Euston station has recently received high critique from its owners, Network Rail and the Department for Transport, after the transport watchdog for the capital – London Travel Watch – warned “high levels of overcrowding” at Euston were “putting passengers in danger”. Despite recent upgrades to the station, with newly functioning information boards and the largest single advertising board in Europe, it seems they’ve still managed to miss the mark on customer experience. From late notifications of platforms leading to rushes and crushes, to minimal indoor seating options leaving many stuck outside subject to the full force of the British weather, without centering around the experience of the customer major changes are unlikely to have the desired effect. ➕ With plans to increase train capacity into Euston through the extension of HS2 and knock on-effects to customers caused by delays to this programme, creating unknowns when phasing upgrades, the experience of those visiting the station is likely to only deteriorate further if nothing changes. Customers don’t have much of a choice when it comes to picking their station, nevertheless customer experience should not be overlooked.
