I absolutely love working for Octopus Energy Services a company that truly cares about its customers and employees. Being part of Women on the Tools has been an incredible experience, and it’s amazing to work alongside others to encourage more women to join this industry. We all know the trades are still very male dominated, but Octopus is leading the way with a growing number of female field employees and we’re proud to showcase that and inspire others to take the leap! Women in field engineering are still far too rare. At Octopus Energy Services we're changing that 💪 Our 'Pioneers' group is meeting regularly to champion the unique strengths of our female engineers and installers—while tackling the challenges of working in a male-dominated field. Fun fact: nearly every tool out there is designed using data based on male anatomy. Not exactly ideal. We’re here to change that, pushing for true equality in engineering—because equality doesn’t mean “sameness.” This week, we got a cracking group of engineers, installers, surveyors, and managers together at our R&D site in Slough. We learned a lot, laughed a lot (yes, including a face plant into the floor for me 🫠 ) , and shared some seriously useful insights with our partners Katie Sankhalpara at Mills Tools and CHH—plus, we got hands-on testing some new kit. Today, she had the huge honour of addressing the Prime Minister at the govt’s Plan for Change announcement. We couldn’t be more proud! 🐙 Bliss decided a degree wasn’t for her & became a plumber. Now she installs heat pumps, solves complex problems, and sometimes she even buys flowers for lovely customers. We’ve created 3,500 such fulfilling green jobs this year alone: not just meaningfully helping the UK towards its climate goals but also making a difference to people’s lives every day. In just three years, they’ve scaled up to three bustling distribution centres, supporting hundreds of crew delivering thousands of pieces of green tech to homes across the UK - all fueled by that unmistakable Octopus customer obsession. When we installed solar on our home a while ago our motivation was self-consumption. We're set up on Octopus Outgoing export too but the export credit is a bonus rather than the prime reason for installing the system. Solar generation makes such a difference to our import bill that I'm happy to forego the export credit and gift it to those in need. Hence we've launched https://lnkd.in/eG6scuzn
